Chapter 10

Monique's Pov

this morning, I wasn't feeling the best but I went to work today anyway. I arrived at the club and made my way to my office, and as usual, put my stuff away and headed to the washroom to grab the clean towels. "hey mon" Ed said as I walked in "Hey Ed, how are you?" I asked "I'm good thank you, how are you?" he asked "I'm good too" I smiled "I just want to give you a heads up that there is a rumor going around the club of you and charlie being together, obviously I know you're not, and charlie knows your not, but everyone else seems to think you are so I just thought id let you know before you hear the rumor being spread around" he said "thank you so much i really appreciate it, I had a feeling there was something going on, I overheard some of the boys talking yesterday, apparently I might be given an interrogation today" I laughed "oh really by who?" he asked "Jack apparently" i laughed "aha thats cause he thinks youre hot, he want you for himself, obviously he wants to know if its true or not" Ed laughed "well its not going to happen" i laughed "yeah i know, the contract" he smiled "yeah... the contract" i said "look i dont know if there is or isnt anything going on, but i know for a fact he really likes you, he might not admit it but he does, and i can see the way you look at him too, i can tell there's something there for you to, so if you both finally decided to stop beating around the bush and tell each other, then please, please be careful, i dont want you losing your job over my idiot brother and i dont want my idiot brother losing his football career either" Ed said "thank you Ed i really appreciate it but nothing is or ever will happen" i said "just be careful" Ed said smiling and walking away. 

I smiled, I loved Ed, he was honestly so kind and totally honest with me and I really appreciated him. I grabbed the towels and headed back to my office then put them away "Hey Monique, could you have a look at my quad again please?" Jack asked as he entered "Yeah of course" I smiled, here we go, keep composed Monique "Any specific places?" I asked "Nah not really," he said calmly, I began massaging "So Monique, you seeing anybody?" Jack said, wow he just came right out and asked, no beating around the bush "No I'm not, why do you ask?" I asked trying to sound dumb "Oh no reason, you're 100% sure?" he asked again "Yes I'm 100% sure, I think I would know if I was in a relationship with someone Jack" I laughed "Okay I'm just checking," he said "you know I can't go out with anyone here anyway, it says so in my contract," I said, slowly getting annoyed at the number of times I've had to bring up the contract this week already "yeah I know," he said sighing, I laughed inside my head, I knew exactly what he wanted and I shut him down, and I don't know why it was funny. after that, he was disinterested and basically left as soon as we were done. I sighed knowing that was over and then updated his file and dove into my uni work.

"excuse me, Dr. Larkin?" I heard at the door, I smiled knowing it was Charlie "Hello Charlie how are you doing today?" I said in the most professional accent I could, he looked at me and we both laughed "I'm good thank you, yourself?" he asked "I'm good too, what up?" I asked "I just saw Jack in here and wanted to make sure you were okay, he was one of the ones that agitated me yesterday," he said "Yeah no I'm okay, he interrogated me a little but it was nothing" I smiled "okay good, I don't want you getting wrapped up in things because of me," he said "don't worry I can handle myself" I smiled "yeah I can see that" he smiled back at me. "did you need anything else?" I asked "No I just wanted to check in," he said "Okay no worries" I answered, "thank you," I said "It's okay" he smiled as he stood up and left the room and winked at me on his way out, I looked down at the ground and put my hands to my face trying to cool down the heat rising to my cheeks, hoping that he wasn't standing there watching me, and thank god he wasn't. 

I spent the rest of the day doing uni work. none of the players needed any help and if they did they didn't come to me. As I was packing up to leave my office phone rang "Hello?" I answered "Hi Monique, it's Brian, can I see you in my office please?" he asked "Yes, of course, I'll be there soon," I said and hung up the phone, my heart was now racing, what had done wrong, I hope it was nothing, I grabbed my stuff and started making my way to his office, before I ran into Charlie again "leaving?" he asked "no actually, Brian called me into his office," I said nervously "I'm sure its nothing, you'll be okay" he smiled, for some reason when he said that I felt reassured, "I don't know, do you think this rumor spread through the whole club?" I asked worried "If it did, we both know it's not true, they can't do anything about it, you've got this, everything will be fine" he said grabbing my hand and squeezing it for reassurance "I better go, bye Charlie," I said smiling softly at him and continued making my way to Brian's office. once I got there I knocked on the door "Come in" I heard so I opened the door and entered his office, but not before taking a big breath "Monique, please sit" he said directing me to the chair in front of his desk "what can I do for you sir?" I asked "As I'm sure you are aware in the contract you signed that you are not to form any intimate relationships with any of the players here," he said, I nodded "Yes sir" I answered, I knew thats what this was about, "and are you aware of the rumor that is going around about you and Mr. Curnow?" he asked "yes sir," I said again "and what should I make of this rumour?" he asked "it's just a rumour sir, there is nothing happening, it is strictly professional sir," I said as confidently as I could "and if I called him in here he would tell me the same?" he asked "yes sir, because there is nothing going on," I said trying to reassure him "okay Monique, I will take your word for it, but consider this your first and final warning, if I hear of this again, you will be fired," he said "yes sir, understood" I answered and nodded and then left his office. As I closed the door behind me I sighed and then made my way down to my car. that was the most nerve-racking thing, and I hope it never happens again. 

I got to my car and drove home, made myself some dinner, and went straight to bed, with the day I've had I deserve some rest, but before I could my phone went off

Charlie: Hey, just wanted to check and see if everything was okay, how was your meeting with Brian?

Monique: Hey, yeah everything is fine, he just asked about the rumor and I told him it wasn't true, and he said if he ever hears of this again he will fire me, so I'm sorry but this has to stop.

Charlie: no one knows that we message each other

Monique: I'm sorry Charlie.

that was all I said before I blocked him and went to sleep, I knew I wouldn't be able to stop myself if I kept messaging I was doing what was right for both of us, right?
