The Runner and Number 30 (Charlie Curnow)

Chapter 14

Monique's Pov

I woke up the next morning and met with Lauren, the boys were already at the oval, we didn't have to be there until later so we got to sleep in, we got dressed and headed downstairs and grabbed a taxi to the oval "stayed up quite late last night, talking to anyone in particular?" she asked "nah I was just on TikTok, got stuck in a trance I guess" I laughed and she let it go thankfully.

we arrived at the oval and showed the security our passes then headed into the Carlton rooms, "are you running water today?" she asked "I actually don't know, I'm assuming so" I answered "I should probably ask" I laughed I wandered around trying to find Brian, once I found him a made my way up to him "hey brian, am I still running water?" I asked "Sure are!" he smiled "Awesome thanks" I smiled. I made my way back to Lauren and told her that I was running water and that I would catch up to you later, a lot of the boys were walking around shirtless, probably because I hadn't got their guernseys ready yet. I grabbed them all and made my way into the locker room and began hanging them up I got through them pretty quickly, I'm getting better at it, I reached Charlie's, I kind of just wanted to hide it so he couldn't put it on, but I know id get in major trouble for it so I began hanging it up, charlie walked past as he did he leant down to whisper in my ear "wifey material" and he kept walking, I glanced over to him, he was smiling at me, I rolled my eyes and finished of the guernseys. afterwards, I headed into the water room and filled up the water bottles, it was almost time for the boys to run out and warm up in front of the crowd which meant it was game time, I put my vest and belt on and attached the water bottles and then headed out onto the oval to meet the boys in their huddle before the game started. 

the first quarter was underway and the forwards were down on my end for a change, although nothing exciting really happened, Charlie attempted a few contested marks but didn't get any of them unfortunately. I entered the huddle at the end of the quarter and handed out the water bottles, the score at the end of the 1st quarter was Carlton, 30 to GWS, 33 so it was pretty close.

the second quarter started and the defenders were down on my end this time, Charlie took a really good mark just outside 50 but unfortunately missed the goal. then with one minute left Charlie picked up the scraps of a kick and avoided his defender to kick a goal, Ed was the first one over to him and Charlie celebrated. after that the second quarter was over, and the score was Carlton, 53 to GWS, 40, I began making my way down into the rooms with the players and Charlie made eye contact and winked at me, I smiled at him and then headed into the water room to refill the bottles with cold water. 

the third quarter was about to begin and I made my way back to the oval and offered the players water while they were in their huddle and then headed to my station. the forwards were down on my end again this time. About 2 minutes in Charlie tried taking a contested mark but missed, then picked up the spillage and missed the goal as well. I think we both knew he could play better than that, he must be struggling against this team. With 15 minutes left to go, Charlie took an incredible pack mark, I watched him do it, it was like slow motion and I was worried about how he landed he stayed on the ground for a little bit but he got up and seemed okay, sadly he missed the goal again, he was having a pretty off game.  I ran onto the field to give them water and they all gathered around me to grab some. They all left and I was waiting for Charlie to give it back to me, but no one was around us, "what about now?" he asked "What?" I whispered "All hot and sweaty, just imagine that but in private" he smirked, I went red, took the water from him and ran back to the boundary, why did he do that, now I can barely think straight. the third quarter was over but we were still winning. I made my way to the huddle and handed out the water.

the fourth quarter was underway and I was hoping that Charlie could step up his game this quarter. he was pretty quiet most of it, although with 4 minutes to go, he took a solid mark where the opposition landed fully on top of him, it looked painful and it looked like he was complaining about something to the umpire while he was on the ground, he didn't go for goal this time instead tried kicking it to either Harry or Tom, but neither of them got it. the final siren went and the boys won again, the score was Carlton 74, to GWS 64. 

we all headed down into the rooms and the boys sang the song again, I put all the water bottles away and emptied the water, then took my vest off and everything else and headed out to the locker room to celebrate with the boys. I found Lauren and made my way over to her "Good game huh?" I said "Yeah it was a good win" She smiled. "I think the boys are planning on chilling in one of the hotel rooms together tonight if you want to come with me," she said "Yeah sounds good" I smiled, I was starting to feel like part of the club and I loved it. "I'm going to go around and congratulate everyone," I said leaving Lauren and walking over to Tom "Hey, congratulations," I said "Hey Mon, thanks, it was a good game," he said, "It was you played well, how's your hammy?" I asked "Oh it's good, that massage really helped" he smiled "I'm glad, if you need anything let me know" I said and walked off to Ed "Hey great game" I smiled "Hey Mon, thanks" he said "you had a great effect" i said "i like to think i make an impact" he laughed "oh you definitely do" i smiled. "here comes trouble" Ed smiled looking behind me, i turned around than there he was, Charlie, completely shirtless again, is he even aware of all the cameras in here? oh who am I kidding of course he knows "Hey" he said as he came over, I looked to Ed as I said hey but he was gone, "good game" I said "Yeah it was" he said "I wish I could have done better" he said "hey, you had one-off game, it's okay" I said reassuring him. "thanks" he smiled "I'm going to go talk to Lauren for a sec, see you later?" I asked "Sure thing" he smiled, I began walking away when he grabbed my arm and dragged me back, I looked at him confused before he leant down to my ear and whispered again "Do you find me fuckable now?" he asked, I looked up at him wide-eyed, I looked around, he was being so risky, something about it excited me, he smirked at me and then walked away. 

I made my way over to Lauren again "What was that about?" she asked "What?" I questioned "You and Charlie then, he whispered something to you" She said "Oh nothing" I smiled, hoping she would just drop the subject and thankfully she did. the locker room began to quiet down as people were leaving and we decided to head back to the hotel "So whose room are we going to?" I asked Lauren "Jack's I think," she said, I laughed, of course, it was Jack's. we got back to the hotel and made our way to Jack's room. I knocked on the door, and Jack opened it "Gentlemen, the ladies are here!" he called out, we walked in and a majority of the boys were there, I said hi to them as I walked in, and then I sat down on the couch next to Lauren "is loverboy here?" she asked me "what?" i asked not hearing her "loverboy, where is he?" she asked again "over there" i said pointing him out, he was talking with Ed and Patty "of course you knew exactly where he was" she teased "shut up" i laughed, there was no drinking allowed but we all had fun anyway. 

about an hour later I decided that it was getting pretty stuffy in the room, with so many people there so I made my way out onto the balcony to get some fresh air, and I wasn't even out there 2 minutes before I was joined by someone else, I knew who it was instantly, the air was filled with the cologne that I love "hey charlie" I said "woah how did you know it was me" he laughed "your cologne" I stated "so you know what I smell like?" he questioned "yeah I do, it smells good" I said "glad you like it" he smiled. we sat out here in silence for a while before he spoke up again "So you going to admit that you wanna fuck me yet?" he asked "I'm not admitting anything" i said "so nothing I said today got you hot and flustered?" he asked, I didn't answer "speechless huh? how am I going to get you to tell me?" he asked "I won't ever be" I said "ill find a way, ill make you want me so bad" he smirked "not gonna happen" I laughed "you have no idea" he said "yeah yeah, you can talk the talk, let's see you walk the walk" I challenged "oh you've started it now" he said, "two can play at that game, who do you reckon will break first?" I smirked "Oh definitely you," he said "Girls have a hell of a lot more control than boys, I could break you right here right now" I smirked "Oh you think so?" he said "Definitely," I said "Well then go on" he smirked, he knew I wouldn't do anything because everyone could see us "I'm not going to lose my job over this Curnow, ill get you some other time" I smiled and walked back inside. I decided I was going to leave so I said my goodbyes and then left the party and headed back to my hotel room, Lauren was already there "Hey you" she smiled "Hey, when did you leave?" I asked "Aha I knew you wouldn't notice, you were too busy with loverboy outside" she laughed "Yeah yeah whatever" I smiled "I'm happy for you" she said "Thanks," I said smiling at her, we both got into our beds and went to sleep.
