Chapter 24

Monique's Pov

the next morning we packed our bags and headed to the airport, checked in, and waited at the gate to get called to board. I was just on my phone just casually scrolling through Twitter, i hadn't been on here in a while, I looked at the trending hashtags and gasped, #charliecurnowmysterygirlfriend was trending on Twitter, I clicked on the hashtag, and scrolled, there were lots of photos of who people thought was his girlfriend, I kept scrolling, the first tweet with the hashtag came from an account without a profile picture, the tweet said 

"i know who Charlie's Mystery girlfriend is! She came into my cafe tonight! I don't know her name but she works for the club as a sports therapist! #charliecurnowmysterygirlfriend"

and since then there have been so many other tweets about it, I sent a screenshot to Charlie on insta, my heart was racing, I showed Lauren, she looked just as panicked as I did, Charlie messaged me back

Charlie: oh no, this isn't good

Monique: what are we going to do?

Charlie: I guess I could tweet and say that it's not true and i don't actually have a girlfriend I just said that to get her off my back.

Monique: that might work, it's worth a try

a few moments later a new tweet popped up with the hashtag, it was Charlie's tweet, hopefully, this clears the air. I was hoping none of the other boys had seen it otherwise the rumor would be going around the club again and I was going to get fired. 

we got called to board and sat down in our seats, Lauren was trying to calm me down, but I don't think it was helping much. about an hour later we arrived in Melbourne and the airport was filled with cameras, "Charlie!" they were all calling out, I just kept walking I didn't need to seem any more involved than I did already "What's going on?" Brian asked confused "I don't know sir, they must really want to talk to Charlie" Lauren shrugged, we all continued leaving the airport, including Charlie, we made it to the busses got in, and arrived back at the club where there were more cameras calling for charlie we all dispersed to get to our cars and leave asap. this was not good at all.

I got home and sighed as I collapsed on the couch, Brian was bound to know by tomorrow, which meant today was my last day working here. I mean maybe it's for the best now Charlie and I can be together happily without worrying about losing our jobs because of it. 

I decided to end the day here and go to bed, I didn't want to overthink or panic too much, I knew what was coming, it was inevitable. my phone was going crazy, but it was all Charlie, I couldn't bring myself to respond, I just went to sleep.

the next morning, I got ready for work, even though I would be going home as soon as I got there. I drove to the club and then went to my office and just sat in there until I got the dreaded phone call. 

Charlie's Pov

Monique wasn't answering any of my calls or messages last night, I didn't want this to ruin us, I needed to talk to Brian. I got to the club early the next day and headed straight up to Brian's office. i knocked on the door "come in" he said, i opened the door and closed it behind me "Mr Curnow, its good to see you, though im not surprised" he said "hi Sir" i said "please sit" he said directing me to the chair in front of his desk "what brings you here this morning?" he asked "i assume youve seen the social media" i said "yes i have indeed" he said "i warned you" he added "i know sir, but its just another rumor" i said "its hard to believe that there have been two rumors basically identical to one another" he said "i know sir, which is why im here" i said "go on" he replied "i want to to reconsider what youre going to do, she is really good at her job sir, and she has always been professional, she has never done anything here at the club" i said "i understand that Mr Curnow, but she breached her contract" Brian said "kick me off the team" i said "what?" he questioned "kick me off the team, delist me, do whatever you want with me, just please let her keep her job here, the boys love her, she fits in really well, we all know how good she is, and it will be a massive loss for the club if you get rid of her, so get rid of me instead" ii rushed out "Mr Curnow, thats not an option, we need you" Brian said "and we need her too, i was an equal part of this as she was, its not fair that she gets fired and i get nothing sir" i said "but youre one of our biggest players Mr Curnow, we need you" Brian said "well i'm sorry sir, but if you fire her, im done playing" i said trying to sound confident "Mr Curnow-" he started "its up to you sir" i said and walked out of his office and down to the media room to rewatch the footage from the weekend. 

Monique's Pov

my phone rang, "hello?" I asked "Monique, it's Brian, can you come up to my office please," he said "Yes sir, I'll be there soon," I said. I put the phone down and headed up to his office, this was it, it was time to say goodbye, who knew it would be a guy that would get me fired from my dream job, I mean this guy is pretty incredible but never thought I would be in this position. 

I knocked on the door to his office "Come in" he said, I walked in and took a seat in the chair in front of his desk "Miss Larkin, thank you for coming" he said "No worries, what can I do for you, sir?" I asked "unfortunately I have brought you here to discuss your contract" he said "yes sir" I said knowing exactly what he was talking about "now im sure you're aware that this relationship you have going on with Mr. Curnow is a breach of this contract" he said "yes sir, however we arent exactly in a relationship yet" I said "how so?" he questioned "well we havent actually established what we are sir" I answered "even so, there is the attempt to do so" he said "yes sir" I agreed "so Miss Larkin becuase of this breach of contract I have decided to suspend you" he said, I looked at him wideeyed "but sir" I said "despite what you might think I have a heart, and when Mr. Curnow came in here this morning demanding that I delist him from the club instead of firing you, i could see how much he cared about you" he said "he did that sir?" i asked "he did, and believe it or not, he's right, you are an important part of this club, youre needed here just as much as he is, so im going to suspend you for 2 weeks, then i hope you can come back with a stronger head on your shoulders" he said "thank you sir, but what about Charlie?" i asked "Charlie is fine, and i will turn a blind eye to everything if you continue to be careful" he answered "wait what?" i questioned "have these 2 weeks off, relax and recouporate yourself and then come back. I have come to the realization that I'm not going to be able to stop whatever it is you have going on between the two of you, I can see how much you care about each other, it kind of reminds me of the love I felt for my wife when I first met her, so I'm not going to come in between this, all I ask is that your careful, if the public hears about this the club will pay the price, and we don't want that kind of publicity, so please keep it on the down low, or however you young ones say it these days" he laughed "thank you so much sir, I really appreciate it" I smiled "don't make me regret this Miss Larkin" he said as I was leaving "you won't" I promised and left his office.

I was so happy, I wanted to tell Charlie so badly, but I would have to wait until the viewing finished, I couldn't just interrupt and ask for him without it being weird and suspicious. so I sat in my office and waited.
