Chapter 23

Monique's Pov

I woke up the next morning feeling better about the situation I was in. I got ready for the game and headed out with Lauren to the oval, we headed to the locker rooms and I began hanging up all their jerseys like I normally do on game days. I got through them pretty quickly and then went around to ask the players if they needed any extra physio before the game, and everyone seemed fine. Charlie walked in and this was the first time I saw him today, I needed to tell him about the girl last night just so we were always on the same page if anything happened "Hey Charlie, can I talk to you for a sec?" I asked "Yeah, but Brian is right over there," he said, "how's your knee going?" I asked "It's a little sore, do you mind just having a look at it before I play" he answered "Yeah no worries" I smiled as we walked over to one of the physio rooms, we left the door open and I began movements with his knee "so I went for a walk last night to a cafe down the road from the hotel," I said "yeah?" he questioned "well the girl that was working there was one of the friends of the girl who asked you to marry her, she asked who I thought your girlfriend could be, I said I didn't know, but she implied that it was us, apparently the way I told you you have 5 minutes left was too intimate and we looked at each other in a certain way and I think she thinks it's me, I told her it wasn't but that doesn't mean she'll believe me" I ranted continuing the movements with his knee, "it's going to be okay? what are they going to do? go to the news? they dont have any evidence to prove it" he said "I know you're right" I said sighing "Alright there you go, you should be all good, just let me know on Monday if it plays up anymore tonight" I smiled and he left the room, I walked out a bit later after sanitizing my hands "Hello Brian, How are you?" I asked him since he was standing right at the door "I'm good, you're doing a good job here Monique" he smiled and left me alone. 

I went to the water room filled up all the bottles and containers and then got ready for the game, I put my vest on and belt, attached the bottles, and headed out onto the field just in time for their warm-up and huddle before the game. 

the first quarter had started and we were going my way, so Charlie was down my end to begin with. The Crows managed to kick the first 2 goals of the game really quickly, but thankfully we scored one as well. I ran onto the field to give them water, and Charlie was calling out to one of the other guys, while I was doing so, he ran into me but it didn't bother either of us and I ran back off the field. The Crows were playing really well and it looked like we were struggling, with about 5 minutes left of the first quarter Charlie caught a really good mark but decided to play on and found one of the boys just inside 50 and kicked it to him, he scored a goal. as always I ran on the field to give them water, I ran up to harry first who was the one that scored the goal and games him some water and then offered charlie somehow came over as well "thanks babe" he said as he handed it back to me, I blushed and ran back off the field. he really needs to be more careful, he's so risky. with less than 10 seconds to go the ball was kicked toward Charlie, who was fully pushed into the ground, there was no way the umpire didn't see it and that it wasn't a free kick, thankfully the umpire called it and Charlie was going for goal after the siren. he missed it pretty badly, that was not a normal kick from him, I hope he was okay and didn't let this get to him too much. 

in the second quarter, Harry tried to kick the ball to Charlie but he missed it and it was called a behind.  Then with 13 minutes left, another ball was kicked to him and he missed that one, and then literally 2 seconds later Adam kicked the ball to him, and it looked like he missed it, but then he got it, it looked so uncomfortable and im sure his knees would have hurt after that, he lined up for goal and missed it. i felt bad he really wasn't having a good game. then with 9 minutes to go he got another mark and he made that goal. the second quarter was over pretty quickly.

in the third Charlie was back down my end. he went for a mark and got his legs taken out by one of the other players. then 5 minutes in Charlie did a nice shepherd and Motlop kicked a goal from it and I ran on to give them water. then with 9 minutes left, he got another mark and another set shot at goal, I had my fingers crossed and he made it, I ran on again to give them water, and he took one and sprayed it all over himself instead of actually drinking it, he must have been pretty hot (figuratively not literally, although he is literally), Charlie also got involved in a little fight, and they were talking shit to each other.  that was basically the end of the third quarter.

in the fourth quarter, Blake kicked a goal basically straight away. charlie took a really good mark with 10 minutes left just inside 50, he missed that one too. and that was it, it was a pretty shit game from the whole team, I hope they dont take it too hard though. 

we entered the locker rooms and all the boys looked really sad, I mean they were on a winning streak and now they aren't which sucks, but I'm sure they can come back from it. I emptied all the water bottles and then headed into the locker rooms "This sucks" Lauren said "Yeah it does" I answered "hopefully they aren't taking it too hard" she said "I hope not" I replied, we sat and waiting until everyone was ready to leave and then we headed back to the hotel. 

once we arrived at the hotel we made our way up to our rooms i was walking at the back with Lauren when i was pulled aside and down a hallway, i saw it was charlie and looked back to lauren "ill cover for you both" she said and winked, i gave her a thank you face and then gave charlie all my attention, as i turned around i was met with a kiss, a deep kiss, a kiss that was desparate, he pulled away "sorry, after the game i just had, i needed that" he said "hey, it wasnt just you, it was the whole team" i said to him "but i had so many opportunities to lower the gap but i just couldnt do it" he said "hey, stop it, you had one bad game, so what, you know you can do better, so you will, stop dwelling on the bad" i said "i know, its just hard" he said "i know, but i believe in you" i smiled up at him "i love you" he said and kissed me again "we should get back to our rooms, ill see you in the morning" i smiled "yeah, see you then" he smiled back at me and let me go first. 

I made it to my room and laid down in bed, I was exhausted "Everything okay?" Lauren asked "Yeah just tired," I said "Thank you for covering" I added "No worries, not that anyone asked" she laughed. I decided to go to sleep, I was so tired, and we had an early flight.
