FOR THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS, Cassiopeia felt absolutely miserable.
What she had said to Harry had been playing in her head on a loop, filling her with regret every time she thought about it. She desperately wanted to apologise to him, but every time she tried she either couldn't put herself up to it or Harry had caught sight of her and walked away.
It was ironic really — she had been trying all year long to find a way for him to finally leave her alone, but now that he did she wanted it to go back to the way it was before.
But not only Harry avoided her now. It seemed Hermione and Ron stopped trying to speak to her as well, Harry probably telling them what she said. Of course they wouldn't want to speak to her. She called Harry's mother a mudblood.
It was strange. A word that seemed so normal for her in the past now felt unnatural to say. She wanted to believe she didn't understand why, but she could no longer keep lying to herself. Theo was right — it was about time she started being honest with herself.
Another thing that continued to rake her mind was Sirius. If he really meant it, Harry had met him during the previous Hogsmeade visit. She kept wondering whether or not he told him what she said too. Though given the fact he told Ron and Hermione then it was most likely he told Sirius too.
Sirius was friends with Harry's mother from what it seemed. Perhaps now hated Cassiopeia too? Besides, she had called him a blood traitor. Of course, he hated her too. Something else she had ruined...
"Alright, Cass?" Cedric asked, noticing her zoning out.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" she shrugged, disregarding her previous thoughts.
"I don't know. You sure you're okay?" he pressed.
She smiled at his concern. "I promise. Now would you stop crying about your quidditch pitch — it's not like you've played all year anyway."
"Have you seen it? They put hedges on it!" he exclaimed dramatically.
"Like you said, they'll be gone after the third task. Besides, I think the thing you should be worrying about is how you're going to get through those hedges."
"Don't worry about me, I've been practising."
"I hope so. Just be careful, alright? There's so many things wrong going on lately," Cassie sighed, mostly referring to Mr Crouch's disappearance. Not just that, but everything suspicious that had been going on — the death eaters, Moody, Harry's name in the goblet.
"I'm always careful," he said, then checked his watch. "I've got to go meet Cho now."
"Of course. We'll talk later," she told him, waving him off as he went in the opposite direction. Cassie let out a short breath, turning to the direction of the grounds.
