IT DID NOT TAKE LONG for the first of September to arrive, filling Cassiopeia with nerves. It felt weird to return to Hogwarts with her mark in mind; the school was supposed to be the safest place to be for the students, yet now there would be death eaters in their midst.
The twins immediately parted as they got on the train; Cassie knew she would not be welcome in his compartment and so did not even bother to find one with him.
She elected to sit with Theo after spotting him in a near compartment. She was glad to run into him rather than the trio; it would be particularly awkward to face them after the whole ordeal in Madam Malkin's. Besides, she did not want to have a conversation with them on how her summer went.
It wasn't like she did not want to see Harry at all, it was quite the contrary. She missed him the entire summer; she missed their moments by the fireplace, his eyes that felt much more valuable to her than emeralds, his smile and the fact that he had the smallest dimple only on his right side. She couldn't help but think of him that entire train journey. It didn't matter how much she would have to try to resist it, her feelings for him grew rapidly, and the fact that they were apart for so long did not help it.
Daphne entered the compartment, having previously left to take a short walk. "I ran into Blaise on my way back," she said as she returned to her seat next to Cassie. "He was on his way to compartment 'c' — said he'd been invited by Professor Slughorn for a lunch."
"Professor Slughorn?" Cassie repeated, recognising her name as she remembered how her father had spoken of him before.
Daphne shrugged. "New defence teacher probably, now that Umbridge's gone."
"He was the old Potions teacher before Snape took over his spot," Theo explained. The two girls looked at him curiously. "He used to be friends with my father before he had gone and got himself arrested at the ministry," he clarified.
"So what's he here for now?" asked Cassiopeia. "And what does he want with Blaise?"
"Well, I overheard that Marcus Belby from Ravenclaw was invited as well. Seems he's been collecting a few lot; won't be surprised if Potter got invited as well."
Cassiopeia quirked a brow at her — she seemed to know a lot about things going on in the school. "Why didn't he give me an invitation?" Theo asked, sitting up.
"Possibly for the same reason Cassie didn't get one either," Daphne said shortly. Cassie and Theo exchanged a glance, knowing exactly what Daphne was hinting at.
After the train had come to a halt, Cassiopeia decided she would make one last stop before departing. "Where are you going?" Daphne asked as she noticed her going the other way.
