WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON, Cassiopeia was relieved when her mother sent a letter saying the twins did not need to return to the manor for Christmas.
Ever since she had got her mark, she was scared that soon she would have to start filling more roles as a death eater; that the Dark Lord would require her to kill more than just one person. It was why she was terrified of going back to the manor, which was no doubt no longer a safe space.
Cassiopeia emerged out of the library, having gone there to return some books that proved to be useless in the task. She attempted to figure out exactly what had happened to Dumbledore's hand — a curse, no doubt, one that could have easily resulted in his death. And yet all she could find was close descriptions, not the actual curse itself. Even the books she had taken from her father's study to Hogwarts were unhelpful in this field, and she knew this was due to him getting rid of his most incriminating books on account of the raids.
For a moment she wished she had actually gotten help from Snape — that way she could have access to the restricted section of the library. There was no other teacher Cassiopeia could think of that would freely give her access unless it had to do with something relevant to her course. At the end of the day, she had to trust her gut to mistrust Snape.
But he made the unbreakable vow.
Cassiopeia didn't know why he did it. For all she knew, he could have been lying — but why would he want to? From what Cassiopeia knew, Snape had known her parents from their Hogwarts days, as well as during the first war as both he and her father were death eaters. But were they really close enough that he made a vow for them? Was he willing to die to protect them? Or did the vow serve another purpose?
"Harry? What are you doing here?"
Cassiopeia was confused to see Harry standing in the corridor of the library, looking as if he might have been waiting for something — waiting for her, perhaps?
"I thought you were leaving the castle for the holidays," she said, walking towards him.
"Yeah, I am — I'm going to the carriages after this. I just wanted to speak to you before I left; Hermione said you'd be here," he answered. Cassie noticed that his demeanour was stranger than usual. "I didn't see you after you left the party."
Realisation struck Cassiopeia, and she groaned with frustration at herself. She completely forgot about the party after she spoke with Snape and Draco. It did not come across her mind once that she left Harry behind.
"I'm so sorry," she sighed. "I-I passed my brother on my way back from the bathroom. We had a row and after that I guess I was just too tired to go back to Slughorn's office."
