AFTER HEARING THAT KATIE BELL was moved to St Mungo's, Cassiopeia felt an immense feeling of guilt. Even though she had no part to play in her injury, the only reason it occurred in the first place was because of her task. A task that only existed because of her father — because he was a death eater and angered the Dark Lord.

Cassiopeia's resentment of her father began to grow. It wasn't her fault that the Dark Lord decided to punish the twins, nor was it Draco's. It was his. His mistake. His failure. And now they had to pay the price. Katie was paying the price.

"Hey, Cass — are you busy?"

Cassiopeia looked up. She was in the middle of her Defence Against the Dark Arts assignment, sitting at a table in the corner of the Gryffindor common room during her free period, when Harry approached her.

"No, I was just finishing," she said, pushing her parchment aside. In truth, her mind was way too clouded to concentrate on her homework.

"Did you, er — did you hear about Katie?" asked Harry awkwardly.

It was a stupid question. Of course Cassiopeia heard about it; the entire school knew about it at this point. And Cassie knew he knew that, so she was left wondering why he had asked it in the first place.

"Yeah... kind of hard not to..." she responded, drumming her fingers on her thighs.

"Leanne — Katie's friend — she says she might've been imperiused into giving it to someone," Harry continued slowly.

"Harry, why are you telling me this?" asked Cassiopeia. Knowing the details of what happened to Katie was the last thing she wanted to know right now.

Harry looked to be internally debating something. It seemed her finally made up his mind as he spoke again, "I think your brother might've given Katie the necklace."

Cassiopeia had no idea what to say at that moment. She felt a flurry of emotions — fear, shock, confusion, dumbfoundedness and overwhelmed. "What?" was all that managed to spill out of her mouth.

"I know it sounds—"

"—sounds what? Crazy? H-how did you even come up with that? Draco had detention on the Hogsmeade trip, he told me — he didn't do it," Cassiopeia lied immediately. She could not afford for Harry to find out. She would cover for Draco, even if that meant she had to manipulate Harry to shut down his speculations.

"I saw him in Knockturn Alley, talking to Borgin and—"

"You followed us," said Cassiopeia in disbelief, though kept her voice low so that the few people in the common room would not be able to overhear.
