CASSIOPEIA WAS SURPRISED to find out that the Hogsmeade trips would continue that year. With all the tight security measures, she expected the school to want to restrict the village visits. She was not complaining though.
"Any plans for Hogsmeade this weekend?" she asked Dean as they walked away from the Gryffindor noticeboard.
"Ginny and I were planning to go on a date at the Three Broomsticks," he answered.
Cassiopeia's brows furrowed. "You and Ginny — on a date?"
"Er, yeah — she's my girlfriend, after all," he said, looking confused by her reaction.
"You're dating Ginny?"
"Yeah... I told you at the end of term — and in my letters, which you barely responded to by the way."
Yes, he did tell her. For some reason, she had only remembered now. He told her the second to last day of the last term, and she supposed she was so caught up in what was going to happen when she returned home for the summer that what he said barely resonated with her. The letters sent from Dean had been quickly scanned over by her as she was too busy reading her father's books instead.
Cassiopeia had been so out of touch with reality lately.
She felt like a terrible friend.
"Right — right, you did. I'm sorry," she apologised genuinely.
On the day of the Hogsmeade trip, Filch had made sure to triple-check everyone who had permission with his secrecy sensor.
"What does it matter if we're smuggling dark stuff OUT?" demanded Ron, eyeing the long thin secrecy sensor with apprehension. "Surely you ought to be checking what we bring back IN?"
Cassiopeia walked into Hogsmeade with the trio, holding her robes tightly with her gloved hands, feeling unbelievably cold and longing to be close to a fire. The four walked into a crowded Honeydukes, all relieved to be indoors in a mercifully open shop, unlike Zonko's Joke Shop which they noticed was boarded up when they passed by.
"Thank God," shivered Ron as they were enveloped by warm, toffee-scented air. "Let's stay here all afternoon."
"Harry, m'boy!" said a booming voice from behind them.
"Oh no," muttered Harry. Cassiopeia let out a small snort.
"Harry, that's three of my little suppers you've missed now!" said Slughorn, poking him genially in the chest. "It won't do, m'boy, I'm determined to have you! Miss Granger loves them, don't you?"
Cassiopeia knew he was referring to his Slug Club. Hermione had been telling Cassie about it in the girls' dormitory, and how Harry conveniently managed to miss every single one of them.
