"HE'S AT PERFECT LIBERTY TO kiss whomever he likes," Hermione had been saying as she and Cassiopeia sat together in the dormitory on the latter's bed.

Ever since the evening of the quidditch match, Hermione had not spoken a word to Ron, leaving Harry and Cassiopeia to be the glue of their friendship. Whilst Harry was hopefully reminding Ron that he was an idiot, Cassie tried to comfort Hermione.

"So, now that Ron's out of the question, who're you thinking of taking to Slughorn's party?" asked Cassiopeia.

Hermione flushed, looking reluctant to say.

"Have you already got someone? C'mon, tell me!" Cassie insisted.

"Cormac McLaggen," she answered shortly.

"Cormac McLaggen?" Cassiopeia repeated in confusion. "The same Cormac who you hexed so Ron could get on the team?"

"I did not hex him—!" Hermione protested.

"Isn't he a prat?" continued Cassie, wondering what on earth was Hermione thinking.

"I don't think it's particularly fair to call him that..."

"You could've gone with Harry as friends, you know."

"But you're going with Harry!"

"It's not the end of the world if I don't go to one Christmas party — I've been to one nearly every year," she said with a laugh. "But I guess I won't judge you for your decisions. After all, imagine Ron's face when he hears you're going with another guy," she said with a smirk.

Before either of the two could say anything more, Lavender and Parvati walked into the room, giggling amongst themselves about something they were discussing.

"Good night, Cassie," Hermione said quickly, pulling the curtains of her bed back.

Cassiopeia sighed. As annoyed as she was about the fact that yet another thing came between Ron and Hermione that prevented them from telling each other how they really felt, she could not blame Lavender for the situation. After all, unlike Hermione, she made her feelings for Ron very clear. On the other hand, Ron had never shown even a minute display of romantic feelings for Lavender until she had actually kissed him. It made Cassie wonder if he was only going out with her simply because of what she said about him not having his first kiss and the Ginny and Dean situation.

Cassiopeia had been nervous about going to Slughorn's party. A part of her felt somewhat guilty that she would take a night to have fun when she should have been focusing on the task. She had gotten mad at Draco for cursing Katie Bell but at the end of the day, he acted. She didn't. She needed to help him, but he was making that extremely difficult.
