Masquerade 46
Childish giggles filled the atmosphere as the two children ran around the garden. "You're it!" Mei smiled before darting off. Sicheng, with his little legs, chased after her as fast as he could. Eventually he caught up to her, tapping her before he tripped over himself and fell.
Sicheng, like any other 7 year old, bursted out crying. Mei rushed to her brother's aid, wiping his tears. "Don't cry, don't cry please." She tried comforting her brother. He scraped his knee and was now bleeding. She blew on it, hoping it would help.
Mei quickly ran to the house before eventually coming back with a bandaid. She opened it before putting it on his wound and kissing it.
"Is it better?" She asked. Sicheng sniffled, wiping his remaining tears as he nodded. She helped him up, holding his hand as they went back inside.
The maid gasped when she saw the kids. She kneeled to their level. "What happened to you? Where's your nanny? She was supposed to be watching you!" She sighed with frustration. She feared she might receive backlash instead of the nanny. She jumped when she heard the door shut closed.
Sicheng and Mei ran up to their dad and the maid sighed in relief, thankful it wasn't their mom. She silently walked off to go to continue her job.
He lifted up Mei, throwing her in the air before doing the same for Sicheng. "How are you two? I missed you so much!" He cooed, rubbing his nose into Sicheng's cheeks. He notices the bandaid on his knee.
"What happened?" He asked.
Mei looked down in shame. "Me and Sicheng were playing tag and he fell. I'm sorry, daddy." She confessed as her big eyes watered.
"She didn't hurt me." Sicheng stood up for her, hugging her tight.
"It was an accident, right?"
The two kids nod. "You did nothing wrong." Their dad hugged them both, planting kisses on their little heads.
"What's going on? Why does Sicheng have a bandaid on?"
"Sicheng fell while playing but he's fine." He tells his wife.
She gasped, picking up her son. "Oh my sweet boy! Are you okay? Does it still hurt?" She asked. Sicheng shook his head. She turned to Mei with a look of fury, scaring the poor girl.
"How could you let your brother get hurt?! You're supposed to protect him! What if something worse happened? What would you have done?!" She scolded Mei.
"Xiang." He tried calming down his wife but she kept screaming at Mei and the little girl started crying.
"Oh please, don't give me that! Crying at your age?"
"Xiang, it's enough!"
Sicheng forced himself out of his mother's hand and ran to Mei, hugging her tight.
"Xiang!"
"Minglang." She crossed her arms, glaring at her husband. She scoffed as she walked off.
"Come on, it's bath time." The maid came in, ushering the kids upstairs.

"Daddy, when are we going back to Korea?" Sicheng asked as his father dressed Mei in her pajamas.
"Why? We only just got here two weeks ago." He laughed.
