"Bye Reze! I'll see you tomorrow!"
Denji waved goodbye to his friend.

She waved back,
"Bye Denji!"

The boy quickly ran through the halls until he made it to the front courtyard of the school, spotting his brother waiting for him.

"I'm ready to go home now!"
He told him.

Aki nodded,
"Let's go,"

The two boys walked side by side, with Denji stealing a glance every now and then up at his cool older brother. Aki was just so cool to him!

He missed holding his big brother's hand while they walked to and from school though. They held hands the first few times, but it seemed at some point Aki got embarrassed of it, and stopped.

Denji didn't dare to try and get him to hold his hand again though, he didn't wan't to risk his big brother getting mad at him. It was alright though, you showered him with enough affection at home to more than make up for it.

While deep in though, Denji wasn't able to notice how he was slowing down, and once he realized it, he ran to catch up with Aki.

"What do you think Dad's gonna make for dinner tonight?"

Aki shrugged,
"I dunno,"

Darn, shot down.

Another thing, lately Denji feels like Aki was growing more distant from him and Power. Aki used to play games with Denji all the time, and when Power came along, that didn't really change too much.

But recently, he played with them less and less, spending more time in his room or at Kendo practice.

Denji wasn't fond of this change, and began to think that it may have been caused by something he had done.

Did he eat one of Aki's snacks? Did he accidentally embarrass Aki in front of his friends?

Whatever the case, Denji was sorry, and hoped Aki would forgive him.

Denji walked a little faster, his legs were a bit shorter than Aki's, so he had to put in a bit more effort to stay at the same speed.

Why doesn't he just ask Aki to slow down? Because he has the common sense of a seven year old, and also didn't want his older brother to think he wasn't cool.

Eventually this backfired on him though, and he tripped over a section of the sidewalk which had been raised due to a tree root pushing on it.

He fell straight to the ground, scraping his knee.

Aki knelt down next to him with concern,
"Denji, are you okay?"

Denji slowly got off the ground, sitting on his behind.

He wanted to be okay, he wanted to be strong for his big brother. But he couldn't. The scrape on his knee hurt too much, and his arms ached from breaking his fall.

He began to cry,
"I want Dad!"

Aki panicked a bit, not knowing what to do.

Oh you were gonna be so cross with him!

With no first aid kit or bandaids, all Aki could do was hug his younger brother, trying to soothe him.

Eventually Denji's tears subsided, but the sadness and pain were still there.

"You want me to carry you Denji?"

The younger boy sniffled,
"Yes please,"

Aki carried Denji on his back and began the trek home, not losing his resolve even though he struggled.

"Welcome back you two, how was-"

As soon as you saw the state Denji was in, yoh scooped him off of Aki and sat him down on the couch, getting to work on cleaning and patching up his wound.

"Denji, what happened?"
You asked, not really because you needed to know, but because it'd help distract him from how uncomfortable it'd feel cleaning the wound.

"I-I was walking with Aki and- and then I tripped!"
He held back his tears which ended up proving a fool's endeavor as they immediately spilled out as you hugged him.

"I'm so sorry, Denji, that must've been awful,"

He hugged you back tightly, wiping his eyes on your shirt.

Something like this wouldn't have made him cry before you adopted him, he used to be used to the pain. It seemed like all of your pampering got rid of his pain tolerance, which was both a good and bad thing.

Aki was wracked with guilt. He felt like it was his fault for not slowing down for Denji. If he slowed down, then Denji wouldn't have had to walk so quickly, which could have prevented this whole debacle.

"I-I'm sorry Denji,"
Aki apologized while holding onto the bottom of his own shirt.

"Aki, what are you apologizing for?"
You asked.

He explained the whole situation to you, which did help with the guilt. He felt like he'd yet again failed a younger brother.

"It's alright,"
Denji said between sniffles.

"But can you hold my hand again when we walk?"
He asked.

Denji gave Aki the biggest puppy eyes he could muster, and there was no way Aki could deny him now.

"Alright, I'll hold your hand,"
Aki relented.

Denji smiled as his tears subsided, and Aki went to give him a comforting hug.

It was nice to see your children getting along.

While all of this was happening, Power slept soundly in her room, with Nyanko curled up in her arms.
