The adoption went through successfully, and Power was ecstatic. Now she'd have a comfy bed and great food forever! And people to play with too!

While Aki watched Power and Denji celebrate, he couldn't help but feel a sense of dread deep within his chest. There were two new younger children in the family, and you were just one man.

There was no doubt in his mind he'd be assigned to his old fate of taking care of his younger sibling, now with two of them.

Being an only child was nice while it lasted...

That night you put the children to bed, giving each of them a peck on the forehead before tucking them in.

"Goodnight, Denji,"

"G'night dad!"
He said before returning a kiss on your cheek.

"Goodnight Power,"

"Goodnight, father,"
She replied quickly.

The girl was a little weird, calling you father rather than dad, but who were you to stop it? It seemed like it brought her joy, and you weren't going to rain on her parade.

Aki waited in bed for his goodnight kiss, but was confused when you just stood at the door.

You brought your voice to a whisper,
"Psst, Aki, come here!"

Perplexed, he hopped out of bed and followed you to the living room.

"Why aren't I going to bed? It's already past bedtime,"

You held a finger to your mouth as you showed him the clock on the wall, then the clock in your phone.

You had set the clocks two hours ahead of what the time really was.

"I put the other two to bed early so we could have some alone time together. I'm thinking we could do something like this every week,"

He couldn't help but smile a little at the proposition.
"That sounds nice,"

You ruffled his hair before heading to the kitchen.
"I'll make you some hot cocoa, you just sit down and relax on the couch,"

He did as he was told, patiently waiting for you.

You soon returned and sat down with a sigh, placing a blanket over your son before giving him his mug.

"So Aki, how do you feel about Power joining the family?"

He blew on his hot drink before collecting his thoughts.
"She's loud, and very weird, even weirder than Denji. But I still like her, Denji does too,"

He leaned his head on your side as you turned the TV on to a show he liked.

"I think... I think I miss being an only child,"
He said, his voice just barely over a whisper.

He knew it was selfish of him to think like that, but he couldn't help it. He missed being a duo with you, and especially all of your undivided attention.

"I understand, kiddo,"
You kissed the top of his head.

"You probably think I'm gonna make you take care of them, don't you?"

He froze up for a second, knowing you'd just read him like a book.

You chuckled,
"It's fine, Aki. And don't you worry your head about that. I'm gonna try not to rely on you too much to take care of them."

You continued,
"Of course you'll walk with them to and back from school, but other than that, you've got no other responsibilities regarding them,"

"You're a child too, I can't expect you to sacrifice your own happiness for them like that,"

Hearing your words, he wanted to cry. A lot of what you said made him want to cry.

He could only imagine what life would've been like if his old parents were like you, instead of obsessing over his sick younger brother. He was just a child, how could they expect him to be responsible for his brother?!

An arm wrapped around him, holding him comfortingly.

He'd look forward to next week.
