Parents walking their children home from school wasn't the most common thing where you lived, but you still tried to do it when you could. You weren't able to do it as much as you'd like since your work duties were picking up again, but every now and then, you still managed to do it.

The children were always delighted when they saw you waiting outside the school gates, usually accompanied by a security guard who at first was worried you were a creep, but later came to enjoy your brief conversation.

It wasn't just having their loving father walk them home that made them happy though. You picking them up from school came with its own perks.

"Well I think we've all worked hard this week. How about some ice cream? Or cookies?"

The children cheered.

"Ice cream! And one for Pochita too!"
"I demand both!"
"I'm fine with either,"

You let out a laugh at your beloved little ones, assuring them of their delicious treats ahead.

"C'mon dad, keep up!"
Denji urged, pausing in place where he stood, meters ahead of you.

"I'll be there in a second, Denji. I just need to... catch my... breath..."
You stopped, letting out a loud sigh.

Whenever you walked home with them, you tried to carry all their school bags for them, enjoying seeing them walking unbounded. But damn were their backpacks heavy! What were they putting in these things, rocks?!

"Be careful, papa! My rock kingdom is in there!"
Power cried, jumping up towards you.

That made more sense.

Aki approached you, reaching towards his bag,
"I can carry my own bag,"

You quickly turned away from him,
"No no, it's fine, I can manage. But maybe next time you'll have to carry your own bags. And also leave your rock kingdoms where you found them,"

"Aw man..."

Denji and Aki sat on either side of you, while Power sat on your lap, mainly for the protection of the local wildlife. The three of them were happily eating away at their sweet treats, excited for the weekend to come.

"This is the best day ever!"
Power and Denji cheered.

"You say that every time dad gets us ice cream,"
Aki noted, making you chuckle.

"That's cuz it's true!"
Denji retorted.

"Ice cream and cookies are the best things humans have created! And weekends too!"
Power added, confident in her words.

Moments like these made being an unwilling single father of three children worth it. It was hard work, but the unconditional love of your three precious gems was something you wouldn't trade for the world.

Sometimes you did worry that you were spoiling them though. What if they grew up into spoiled losers who leeched on society?! You paled at the thought.
