"How do you like the new house, Aki?"
You asked your son who was currently sitting down on a large box.

"It's nice, but I liked our apartment better,"

You ruffled his hair,
"It's because of all the memories we shared there, right?"

He nodded, slightly embarrassed at how easily you read him.

"Don't worry kiddo, we'll make a lot more memories here. Did you see your room yet?"

He shook his head, and you guided him to his new living quarters. His eyes widened as he ran about the room.

"It's so much bigger than my old room!"

You chuckled at his happiness,
"Glad you like it. I've already got the couch set up in the living room, you can go play your Pokémon game there while I get your bed set up,"

He nodded before heading to the living room like you asked, opening up the 3ds you'd given him.

He enjoyed his Pokémon game, especially the parts where he'd be able to pet and groom his Pokémon, being able to feed them treats as well.

It made you feel happy that Aki seemed to be settling in nicely despite some understandable hesitancy. His life was changing for the better and you were glad that you were a part of that change.

"Aki! Dinner's ready!"

The footsteps of your ten year old could be heard quickly approaching, and he was soon sat at the dining table with his 3ds in hand.

You placed the food down in front of him and watched as he began to eat while still playing his game.

"Aki, I'm happy you like your game, but do you think you could put it down while you eat?"

He did as you said, although he did seem a little disappointed.

You kissed the top of his head,
"Thank you Aki,"

Your praise was enough to wash away his disappointment, and the two of you enjoyed your dinner in your new home.

"Here it is Aki, your new school!"

Aki seemed a bit hesitant to let go of your hand as you walked past the school gates.

"Dad... I don't wanna go to school,"

You kneeled down in front of your son, putting a hand on his head.
"I know it seems scary Aki, but it'll be a good experience for you, I promise,"

He still seemed a bit hesitant, so you made a proposal,
"How about I go with you for your first day then? Keep you company?"

Although that did seem nice to the boy, he realized that it'd also completely and totally embarrass him, so he shook his head.

"I'll go by myself,"

You ruffled his hair, putting a kiss on his forehead,
"That's my boy,"

He gave you a tight hug,
"I love you dad,"

You hugged him back,
"I love you too, bud. The school day will be over before you know it, and you'll make new friends and have so many cool experiences too!"

You stood up, cupping his cheek in your hand,
"I'm proud of you, Aki. Go have fun,"

He nodded with a smile before walking into the school.

This would be a big step for him, one which you hoped wouldn't be too challenging.

As Aki walked out of the school, his eyes wandered between the numerous adults who were there to pick up their children.

When he was younger he'd always see the other kids being taken home by their parents, but he was never able to get that kind of treatment because of his brother's condition requiring his parents' constant attention.

His eyes finally settled on your figure, and he ran as quickly as his legs could take him to you.

He wasn't sure why he was so happy to see you, but he was.

He jumped at you, knowing fully well you'd catch him in your arms.

"Well it seems like somebody missed me! Did you have fun at school today, Aki?"

He nodded,
"Mhm. I made a new friend,"

"Really? What's his name?"

He nuzzled his face into you as he let his eyes droop,
"I think his name's Angel. He's kinda weird though..."

You chuckled at your child's bluntness,
"Well I'm sure he's very nice,"

Soft snores could be heard coming from your child as he dozed off to sleep. It seems his first day of school had taken a lot out of him, and you were happy to be his temporary bed.
