"Dad, I don't feel so good... I don't think I wanna go to school today,"

You put your hand on your son's forehead,
"Aww, think you've got a cold?"

Aki shook his head,
"I don't feel sick... I just don't feel good today,"

Your heart clenched at his words,
"That's alright buddy, I won't make you go today,"

He felt a bit better knowing he wouldn't be forced to go to school today, and stayed in his bed as you went to inform the school.

Aki had a particularly bad dream last night, one that brought back to memories of his past. He couldn't go to school like this, it'd be too hard for the boy.

After a little bit, you returned to your son.

"Is there anything you want, Aki?"

He shook his head,
"No. I think I just want to be alone right now,"

You pressed a kiss onto his forehead,
"I understand. If you need anything, just let me know,"

He hummed in response and watched as you left.

As you walked out of his room, you bumped into another little boy.

"Denji! I'm so sorry, are you alright?"

He ignored your question, peering into Aki's room from the crack in the doorway.

"What's wrong with him?"
By the tone of his voice, you could tell that he was worried.

"There's nothing wrong with him, he's just feeling a bit... sad today,"

The boy turned around and faced you with a puzzled expression,
"Why?"

You placed a hand on his shoulder,
"That's for him to tell you, and that might not be for a long while,"

He looked around with a conflicted expression,
"Well... how do we make him feel not sad?"

A smile formed on your face. It seemed like Denji really cared for Aki.
"For now, we'll just have to give him his space,"

The little boy didn't seemed too satisfied by this answer. He wanted to help!

"I'm gonna start making breakfast now, you want pancakes?"

The blonde boy had an excited expression on his face,
"Yes please! And make some for Pochita too!"

It'd been a while now and Aki still hadn't left his room unless he had to go to the bathroom, but at least it seemed that he was eating the food you brought to him.

You were still very worried though. This was something you had seen the signs of, but hadn't actually happened before.

Even though he'd asked for some alone time earlier, you just couldn't keep yourself from trying to help.

You knocked on his door,
"Aki, could I come in please?"

After a moment, you heard him.
"Okay,"
