"Autumn Jane seriously put that book down you read it all the time!" Regina begs me and grabs my hand pulling me off my grey duvet. "Yes I do Reggie because it's an amazing book S.E Hinton is an amazing author. And the outsiders is arguably her best book." I retort and place the book down on the bed. "Yeah, yeah I know. But the fair is tonight come on come with me just for an hour." "But we're in college we should be studying." I groan and sit back down on my bed. "Nonsense you never study anyway. Come on be social for once just come. You know when you're around people you're fun and you have a way better time."

"Yeah that's true." I agree. "Come on AJ. Let your brunette locks down for a night. Stop living in the 60's and live in the present 2015." I smile at her and lowly chuckle "Ok fine just let me get dressed into something better." "Yes!" she throws her fist into the air like John Bender from the breakfast club. Yeah I'm a movie buff I love most 80's movies and pretty much know everything about them.

I walked over to my cupboard doors and swing them open. I scan through the range of dresses, sweaters and shirts. I pick out a blue crop top, black leather jacket and my black flats. I walk over to my dresser and pull out some black ripped jeggings after getting changed I put on some mascara, light foundation and black eyeliner and throw my hair into a ponytail because if we were going to ride the rides at the carnival I didn't want my hair going everywhere.

I grab my some money and shove it in my front pocket as well as my phone. I open my door and walk through the small hallway and into the living/dining/ kitchen area. "Oh good you're ready, let's go." Regina says excitedly and races out the door.

.............

We reach the fair packed with thousands of people. "This is exciting isn't it?" Reggie asks turning to me as we stand in line to pay to get in. "Yeah It is! So who else is meeting us tonight?" "Oh um Chris, Peter and Kent and of course Hailey." We reach the teller and we pay our fees for our tickets to get in.

"So where are we meeting them?" I ask as we walk over to the side so we can get ourselves organised. "We're meeting them in ten minutes at the Ferris wheel. So what do you want to do now?" she asks I look around "Cotton Candy!" we say at the same times seeing a stall nearby that was advertising it with neon lights. We giggle and walk over to the stall and order one each.

"We should head to the Ferris Wheel now." I suggest and Reggie nods I was always envious of her looks, she was gorgeous. She had blonde hair that she always curled and they cascaded down her shoulders, she had dark blue eyes and pale skin and she was thin but curvy. She was supermodel quality in my opinion. Hailey was exactly the same except she had a pixie cut and her hair was brown and lighter towards the end. Her eyes were a rich dark brown but they danced in the light.

We reached the Ferris wheel in no time there was Chris and Kent but Peter and Hailey were nowhere to be seen. You see Pete and Hailey were so much alike they were both irresponsible and always late. Pete really never grew up after high school and Hailey just lives to be "Fabulous." In her words. They were best friends and we all thought they should get together but it never happened they just slept around with other people and didn't want to be "tied down by their best friend." As they put it.

Regina and Chris had dated when we were in high school but broke it off after a month and stayed best friends. And well Kent was just a sort of loner we talked a lot and got on really well he was probably my best guy friend in the group. Chris and I were and awkward topic because we kissed once and I enjoyed but he was heavily drunk at the time and he never talked about it again so I never knew if he remembered or not and if he did whether he just hated it or didn't want to jeopardise our friendship. It made things hard for me seeing as I was never sure whether I liked him or not.

"So we still waiting for Hay and Pete?" I roll my eyes and state rather than ask. "You know it!" Chris replies taking a drag on his cigarette. "Well why don't we go on some rides then? They can catch up later." I suggest being too excited to ride the rides and don't want to wait for them. A collective murmur of agreements sound and we start walking towards the rides when I see something that catches my eye.

I stop and look over to my right to see a purple tent illuminated by the surrounding lights. There was a neon sign that read "Madam Eve Wish Granter & Psychic." I scoffed at the sign never being one to really belief in that type of thing.

"Don't tell me that now you're going to become all superstitious and believe in that shit?" Pete laughs as he and Hailey come walking up to us. Pete clad in a black pocket t-shirt and maroon denim shorts. Hailey was dressed in a blue crop singlet, flowy cotton cardigan and high waisted shorts.

I shrug my shoulders and think of the fortune teller from Tex both the movie and book. Yeah I think about the 80's a lot I'm convinced I should have been born in like 1964 that way I could have lived the best years of my life in the 80's and like married Rob Lowe or Matt Dillon or Emilio Estevez or you know. They were all really hot and great actors.

"I don't know. You know my mom always says you never know until you try." I say smirking. "Yes but Hunny I have not listened to years of lectures from you on how it stupid and a load of bullshit just for you to change your mind now." Reggie puts her hand on my shoulder and I chuckle. "Yes well my dear welcome to the world where it is a woman's privilege to change her mind." I start to walk over to the tent when Kent pipes up and over dramatically explains how me doing this changes the world. "You know first it's her going into one of these fakes and then she changes her mind on the whole psychic thing and then she changes all her ideals and beliefs and becomes some dope smoking, protesting, naked hippy." The whole group erupts into laughter. "You know Kent you read way too much into things." I reply and arrive at the tent. "Wish me luck." I wink at him and then walk in to the tent pushing the thick, velvet curtains aside.

The room smelt like incense and it was dark and had to see. I waited for my eyes to adjust and when I did it was set up exactly how I thought I imagined. A table in the middle with a crystal ball and strange pattern or symbol on the top of it. There were candles set up everywhere that gave it some light but not much and a woman sitting at the table wearing the typical thing you'd expect a fortune teller to wear.

"Hi?" I ask wearily. "Yes darling sit down." She gestures to the chair opposite her. I sit down in front of her "wish or fortune?" her voice was monotonous and raspy needless to say I was already creeped out. "Ugh can I have both?" "Ahh a curious one and not a believer in the spirits are you?" I shake my head. "No I have never really been given a reason to believe." She doesn't reply but instead changes the subject. "That will be $10." I nod and grab the money from my pocket and lay it in her outstretched hand. She closes her hand over the money and puts it somewhere under the table.

"Give me your hand." She demands and so I oblige. She takes a firm grip on my right hand and then lightly traces her fingers around my palm. "Hmm very interesting." I look down at my hand and back at her confused. "A great adventure and love is ahead for you my dear. Some heartbreak to unfortunately but also excitement and the great unexpected." "The great unexpected?" I ask confused as to what she meant. "Yes. Now for your wish, think of a wish don't say it out loud and then blow out one of these candles around the room. Whichever one you are drawn to." I nod and think of my wish then stand up and walk around the room I then stop in front of one only because it just seemed right. I can't explain why but it just felt 100% right that this was the candle.

I blew it out and a small gust of wind blew from nowhere I freaked out and ran from the tent. "You look like you've seen a ghost AJ." Chris laughed "Yeah well that chick was a freak. Come on let's go on some rides."
