Chapter Three: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin

After many hours of riding the train, it had finally stopped. Lily looked at Severus nervously, "Well, this is it."

He nodded and said, "This is it."

Lily said, "We're at Hogwarts."

"Yup." He said popping the 'p'. An awkward silence filled the compartment, so thick you could cut it with a knife. Lily, with a new sense of confidence, stood up an said bravely, "Let's go! I can't wait any longer and neither can Hogwarts."

Severus nodded once more and followed Lily. When they got off the train Lily heard a gruff voice say, "Firs' years! Firs' years over 'ere!" Lily spun around and gaped at the man who had just spoken. He was enormous! The man was twice the size of any tall bloke Lily had ever seen. The man was almost as tall as a giant; he had on thick cargo trousers and a huge moleskin overcoat with a thousand or so pockets. He had a long, scraggly beard with black hair longer than Mophead did. Despite his intimidating size, he had on a big smile that stretched across his face, and ebony black eyes much like Severus. Only the man's eyes seemed to have a warm look in them with a kind sparkle. Unlike Severus's eyes which were cold, emotionless, and unreadable. Even Lily who had known him for years had trouble knowing how he felt.

Behind her Severus said rudely, "His feet are bigger than the London Bridge." A few people chuckled at that. Lily on the other hand glared at him and said, "Sev, don't be such a jerk. He looks nice to me."

Severus scoffed in reply.

"Follow me firs' years." The huge man said. The group of new wizards and witches hurriedly walked, trying to keep up with the man's large strides. The group went into a thin, narrow, steep path. Lily, and also every one for that matter, craned their necks to catch a glimpse at their new school. Unfortunately, the path was covered with trees as big as the man, preventing them from seeing it.

Lily looked up at the stars. For the first time in a while, Lily could actually see all of them. Seeing the stars reminded Lily of camping with her parents earlier in the summer, her parents had shown her and her sister the names of many constellations. Rather, only Lily had learned them because Petunia had been to busy complaining about how gross and uncivilized to stay out in the woods for three days.

It should be noted that Lily is many things such as stubborn and an overall good person, and has many talents like she could sing fairly well.

Regrettably, gracefulness was not one of those things or talents. Alas, lost in the memory. Lily did not notice the thick tree root that caused her to fall flat on her face. Lily landed With an, "oomph." The group of first years, except Severus that is, laughed at her clumsiness.

Lily was yanked up by a strong force and stumbled slightly once her feet reached solid ground again. "Ya alright 'here girlie?" The huge man asked.

Lily's face went almost as red as her hair. She looked down at the ground and mumbled, "I'm fine, thank you." The huge man pitied her, falling on the first day was definitely an impression. So was being over eight feet he thought good naturedly. After laughing at Lily a bit more, the group of first years continued on the path with the big man.
