Bruiser slings his mini duffel bag over his shoulder and locks his car. He had just come home from the gym and was dressed in a black t-shirt and gym shorts, nothing too special. He had a daily routine of going to the gym, he thought it was important for him to maintain his strength. It came in handy in his line of business.
He takes one last look at his car before walking up the path to the apartment entrance. After selling the RV and moving into the flat, he still needed a mode of transport. He had always wanted a car that he could work on himself, so he got one. It was a completely blacked-out Nissan GTR; it had a small spoiler on the back, black alloys that didn't have a scratch on them, tinted windows, a personalised plate and a mean exhaust. He had upgraded the car all by himself, it was his own trophy. He had tried to get Louis and Clem as interested in cars as he was, but didn't have much luck.
The tall tattooed man enters his flat, closing the door behind him and putting his keys in the bowl by the door. Scanning his eyes around the room, there was no sign of Lexi.
"Lexi," he whistles and claps his hands together once, assuming she's in the bedroom asleep.
After a few seconds, there was still no sign of her. He walks into the kitchen and peers out of the glass double doors that lead out in to his garden. There, he spots an elderly lady throwing a ball for the doberman, who sprints to fetch it. Bruiser opens the door and steps outside.
"Hey, Mrs Coleman," he smiles, standing next to the lady. She looks up at him with surprise and puts a kind hand on his shoulder.
"Good morning, honey. I hope it's okay that I'm here, I came down because Lexi was sat out here looking so bored!" her voice shakes with age, smiling at the man.
"Of course it is, that's why you have a key! Thanks for keeping her company," Lexi runs up to her beloved owner and barks, so he fusses over her.
Mrs Coleman is his upstairs neighbour, they had grown quite close after Bruiser helped her up the stairs almost every day for the first year of him living there. She was sweet and had a heart of gold, and she was always happy to dog-sit whenever he needed someone. So, Bruiser gave her the key to his garden gate.
"You know I always like seeing her, she reminds me of my old Lyla," she sighs, looking down at the excited dog.
Bruiser hums in empathy, she often talked about her late companion. The small dog passed about a year ago, around when he moved in.
"She was crazy too?" he jokes, rubbing the spot between Lexi's ears.
"Crazier," she laughs as she wipes her hands on her cardigan, "I best get going, I need to go to the store! Do you need anything, my love?"
"I think I'm good," he smiles, "thank you, though."
"Well alright," she slowly walks inside the flat and Bruiser follows behind her, "do you have any plans today?"
"A couple, why? Are you hoping for a date?" he grins, making the lady laugh out loud and lightly hit his chest.
"You wish you could go on a date with an old stunner like me."
He laughs again, "I'm going to see Clementine now."
Mrs Coleman pulls a funny face at him, "Clementine again, hmm?"
"Yeah, I haven't seen her in a little while so I'm going to hers today - hopefully we can work on some more tattoo designs together."
The grey-haired woman hums, a kind of hum that you'd do to tease your friend about an obvious crush. It made him roll his eyes.
