emery
i dug through my boxes in the garage and found my journal. playing the piano with finneas that day, triggered something in me, something that has been asleep for a long time.
i've never been good at writing lyrics but i've always loved writing poetry. i don't know how but i never figured that it would actually be kind of a similar process.
my brows were frowned and i played with the pen between my index and middle finger, trying to come up with the next stanza. nothing. i placed the back of the pen in my mouth and i started biting on it, switching my gaze to the roof of the room.
"what're you doing?" billie asked.
"just writing." i said with the pen still in my mouth.
"don't do that, it'll explode in your mouth." she frowned.
"it won't." i dismissed her and re-read what i had already written out on my notebook.
"i hope my child never feels this way at night,
weeping lakes that are abandoned in ghostly forests,
forests with trees so tall like the walls i've put up,
lakes so deep that creatures creep in their waters,
fish so scared that they never come near,
i hope my child never feels this way at night."i got so frustrated that i just put a full stop at the end and that's when i realized my hands were full of ink. i carefully placed the pen on the tissue box next to me and brought my hands to inspect my mouth, which was indeed full of ink.
"oh my god." i said, standing up on my feet.
"what?" billie looked up from her phone. "oh my god emery!" she said with a sigh, standing up with me. she met me while exiting her room, taking my arm and leading me to the bathroom.
"i told you this would happen." she rinsed out the ink from my mouth.
"i know you did but i didn't think it would happen." i said before starting to swish some water in my mouth and when i spit it out, it was of course aqua blue.
"here try brushing your teeth." she gave me my toothbrush with the toothpaste already in it.
"thanks." i said before i brushed every corner of my mouth.
"at least you're not scrubbing a dick's taste out of your mouth." billie flipped her hair.
i choked on the toothpaste.
"what." i spit out what was in my mouth. "that was so out of pocket." i blinked.
"i'm sorry." she snorted and started laughing her ass off. "i swear i thought i said in my head."
"you're a fool." i had a flabbergasted look on my face and only laughed because of how traumatized i was.
"i'm sorry i know how that— wow i don't know how i said that out loud." she sniffled, getting herself back together.
"i don't know why i'm surprised, you have no filter." i shook my head, and swished more water in my mouth. "should i also scrub my lips?... they're purple."
"it's okay, be my little smurfette." she grabbed the towel and dabbed it by my mouth area.
"okay." i said before she pecked my lips and exited the bathroom, i walked right behind her into the room again.
"don't put your clothes on the chair, it gets mixed up with mine." she said as she took her jacket to wear.
"that's fine, i'm sorry." i said as a grabbed my own jacket and placed threw in on top of one of my boxes.
