Arc 1 - Chapter 8 | The Next Step

"I'm sorry that we couldn't send over the entire team on such short notice." Explained The Director. "We were not prepared for things to turn out this way"

"I wish I could have been there" Ida pitched in.

"It's no worry at all. Thanks to everyone who was there, the fight didn't last long at all!"

Deku claimed.

The Director and Inginium had intercepted the Combat Division as they were leaving the hangar after returning from the battle.

"Is anyone hurt?" Asked Ingenium, still feeling a little guilty for not being a part of the fight.

"The only fool that got hurt was the villain," Dynamo expressed with a hint of arrogance.

The group of heroes entered the main building and stepped onto the elevator to go down into the common area and to the debrief sector.

While in there, Deku and Uravity explained in detail about what happened at the storage facility.

"Well, I'm glad we got this far without anyone getting too hurt," Explained The Director. "I have some old detective friends of mine looking into the crime scene to find any more evidence that we could use, as well as information to use moving forward."

"Sir, what is the next step now?" Asked Deku.

"For right now, we wait until there is more clear evidence that Redestro is behind this." The Director explained. "As concrete as the evidence may be, those could have been stolen parts from when Detnerat was still an open business. Until then, we will operate as normal."

The meeting came to a close, and the day came to an end shortly after.

"You know, since we both had to do a debrief, we can actually head out together tonight!" Said Ochako with some enthusiasm. "It's rare that we get to do that"

"Yeah, I guess you're right," Deku replies.

The couple walks out together after returning to the lobby from the locker rooms, where they had changed into their day clothes. They usually come into work in the morning in uniform, bringing a change of clothes for after a battle.

The first few minutes of the walk back were a bit silent.

"Hey, I'm sorry you got dragged into that battle earlier. I really wasn't expecting it to go that way," Izuku explained.

"Dont worry about it!" Ochako expressed. "We didn't know his quirk would make him able to spy on us in return. And, It was actually nice to see some action again. It's been a while since we've done a mission together."

"I'm glad to hear that" Izuku replied with a smile, excited that she was okay with how things had gone.

The couple continued talking as they made their way home for the night. Once there, they dropped their things by the door and wasted no time to plop down onto the couch.

"Today was such a long day" Ochako expressed as she leaned over and rested her head onto Izuku's shoulder.

"It sure was," he replied as he put his arm around her. He then pulled his phone out to check up on everything since he had not really had a chance to do so this morning.

He opened up his phone to see the last thing he looked at was the message about an order being ready. Suddenly, all the nervous feeling began to rush back in.

"I-Izu?" Ochack started with a bit of concern. "Are you alright?"

"Huh? Oh, Yeah! Everything's fine! Why do you ask?" he quickly responded all flustered.

"Well, You are acting flustered, I can hear your heart racing, and your hand is a bit clammy" she explained as she grabbed onto his hand that was attached to the arm he had around her.

"Everything is alright, I promise" he tried to reassure her.

"Izu, you can talk to me. Look, if this is about Redestro, I get it." she began to explain. "I'm pretty nervous about it too. But, I'm here for you to talk about it"

Izuku was a bit shocked, realizing how she interpreted his situation. He wanted to tell her the truth, but at the same time, he didn't want to give away his surprise. So, he played along with what she was saying.

The truth is, Izuku was actually terrified of what things are becoming. And honestly, him worrying about the proposal was a good distraction to keep his mind off of current events to bring him at ease.

"I'm fine. Seriously." he began. "But, it is making me quite a bit nervous. How are you handling all this?"

"I think I'm doing a good job at looking enthusiastic about everything," She explained.

She did seem a bit different after this morning's meeting. She seemed weirdly content with everything all day. Even on the walk home, she still appeared positive after the fight.

"I'm terrified Izu," she explained. "Last time something like this happened, a lot of people were either hurt or killed. There was no in between." as she said the last part, a tear began to run down her face.

"Ocha..." Izuku quietly muttered out. "It won't come to that. We have nothing to worry about" he explained as he wiped the tear from her cheek and lifted her chin, making them both look into each other's eyes.

"H-How can you b-be so s-sure" she trembled

"Because, With you by my side, there is hope." he said with a tear of his own, starting to run down his face.

Ochako then did the same as him and wiped it off of his cheek. They continued to look into each other's eyes as if time had stopped. Ochako then broke the transe by leaning in and giving Izuku a kiss to say "Thank You".
