"Woops, you lost!" Amelia mocks, a smug smile playing at her lips as she looks at Envy.
He lost in barely two moves... it was quite pathetic. A fool's mate, he moved the wrong pawn adjacent to the king... and Amelia attacked using the bishop.
"Oh, I forgot to say this, but I also wanted to add something to spice things up~"
"...What would that be?"
"Hehe, every time one of us loses... the loser has to answer a question asked by the winner!"
"...Alright. what's your question?" He leans in on his seat.
"...okay, when we fought you the second time... you were badly hurt, but that tattoo on your back started glowing, then you started to regenerate. What's that about?"
"..." He doesn't answer, instead just staring at the chessboard in sulky silence.
"...Answer the question, Envy~"
"...It's a sigil created by the guild. It relies on mana to restore damage done to the body. It holds records of your physiology to accurately heal any damage done to your body. They hold this information and relay it to a database for identification and security. Mine is a fake that I personally inscribed into my skin and is separate from the database."
"...Okay..." She's surprised by the thoroughness of the description given by him, noting that he may have a tendency of showing off despite his original mysterious appearance.
"...Again."
"Ooh~ okay, Envy. Let's go again then!"
Four moves later... Envy lost again.
"...Ouch. well, I wanna know what you've got against Calli."
"...I assumed she was related to someone I knew from my original world."
"Okay, and?"
"...One. Question." He narrows his eyes in frustration, flashing black for a moment.
"Okay, okay. No need to get worked up~ Again~?"
"...Yes."
This time Amelia hands him the win, curious on what he'll ask of her.
"...I won..." His eyes widen for a moment before returning to his usual, neutral expression.
"...I want you to teach me about the sciences of this world."
"...Envy, that's not a question."
"...Can you teach me about the sciences of this world?"
"...Pft, yeah! As a matter of fact, there probably isn't anyone in this world better for that job... if it's about physics."
"...Good."
"Hm... so he's interested in science..." She thinks to herself.
"Well, I think that's enough for today. Would you like to get to studying right away?"
"...No. not today. We'll start tomorrow."
"Okay, but when? Mid-day?"
"...Yes."
"Alright then! Nice playing with you, Envy. Even if you got ground pounded~!" She hides her smug smile and snickers behind her hand as she lifts it up to her mouth.
"Goodbye." He leaves her room, beginning to walk down the corridor of the dormitory before reaching the front of the structure. Walking through the automatic door, finally acquainted with the strange machinery... he comes face to face with Lamy, holding a bottle of sake in her left hand.
"Hello, Envy~ would you like to drink with me~?"
He stares at her for a moment, taking in her appearance.
"...I'd like to."
And so, the two embark on... a 10 minute long journey to the bar from before. Arriving there, you may quickly realize that it's still destroyed, but the entrance is covered up by police 'keep out' tape.
Lamy disregards the tape completely and steps inside, followed closely after by Envy. They both take the seats they first used and Lamy pours both of them their cups.
The walls of the bar are made out of unpainted brick with large, hanging ceiling lights and a wooden bar with many drinks waiting to be served, though Lamy brought her own.
"...What is it you want?"
"Hm~? There's nothing in particular that I want... outside of just holding a nice, long conversation with you about homes and the such, but excuse me for pointing this out now... I noticed you have long ears just like me. Are you an elf?"
"...I am. Does that matter?"
"...Very much so~ It gets lonely when you're the only one of your kind anywhere in the world. Knowing that you're just like me... well, it makes me happy~"
She downs her drink and lets out a sigh of satisfaction... on the other hand, Envy doesn't drink out of his at all.
"...Why?"
"...Envy, I think you should rely on others more. It could help make you feel... better, happier~"
"...I refuse."
"...and why is that?"
"...You wouldn't understand."
Lamy moves her stool closer to his, leaning close to his ear.
"...I can understand you. I can understand you like no one else, Envy~"
"...Is that so?"
"...We are two sides of the same coin... we need to care for one another if that's the case, no?"
"...No."
She gently places her hand on his arm, caressing the surface of his musculature and drawing circle patterns on it.
"...We both know deep down... That's not how you feel~"
"...You don't know what I feel."
"...Then teach me. Tell me. Show me."
Her golden oculi gaze into the void of his own eyes, unblinking, unmoving... she's irrationally passionate towards him.
"...Why are you doing this?"
"...I want you to depend on me~" are the words that almost slip off her tongue, yet she restrains herself.
"...I just want to help you, Envy. You're sad and I can tell... you're just like everyone from my old life."
"...I'm fine."
"...No, you're not."
"...I am fine."
He narrows his eyes, gritting his teeth ever so slightly so as to not let out a growl of annoyance at her insistence...
