The sterile scent of antiseptic stung Shivank's nostrils as he paced outside the operating room, his bloodied hands trembling at his sides. His heart pounded relentlessly, each beat echoing in his ears.

He couldn't erase the image of Vaani lying lifeless in the ambulance, her blood staining his hands and clothes.

He glanced toward the small window on the door, his breath catching as he saw the flurry of doctors and nurses working on her. Hold on, Vaani. Please hold on.

Behind him, the quiet murmurs of waiting family members faded into a deafening silence. Every second stretched into an eternity, and all Shivank could do was wait, wait and pray that fate wouldn't tear his world apart as if it already didn't do much.

The door creaked open, and a doctor stepped out, his expression grim. Shivank's heart stopped.

"Mr. Shivank..." The doctor hesitated, removing his surgical mask.

Shivank's heart raced as he ran towards him. His eyes darted to Vaani through the small window of the ICU before settling on the doctor. His voice cracked, "Is she... okay?"

"I need to ask about The child, it is—" the doctor began, but before he could finish, Prafulla pushed past Shivank, her voice shrill.

"Main ladki ki maasi hoon aur hume baccha nahi chahiye, doctor bas aap—"

"Pagal ho gayi hai aap?!" Shivank's voice thundered as he shoved her back. "Woh baccha mera hai!"

"Mr. Shivank, this is a hospital, not your house!" The doctor's stern voice cut through the tension.

Shivank exhaled sharply, trying to contain his anger. He pulled the doctor aside, his hands trembling. "Yes, doctor... please."

The doctor hesitated but finally spoke. "Mr. Kashyap, Vaani has sustained multiple head injuries. Her condition is critical. Aur... even her clothes were torn, you understand what I'm implying."
