"What the hell?" he barked, sitting up straight.
Vaani didn't flinch. She just stared at him, her chest rising and falling rapidly with hurt and suppressed rage.
"Kya bol rahi hai tu?" he softly asked and scooted closer, reaching for her shoulder, but she slapped his hands away.
"Sach keh rahi hoon!" she snapped, voice trembling with the storm inside her. "You don't give time to me, but jab baat Sneha ki aati hai, you have all the time in the world. And I fucking—"
He quickly covered her mouth with his palm, his eyes darting to the cradle. "Shhh, Asher is sleeping," he whispered, motioning toward their sleeping child.
Vaani angrily shoved his hand away and turned her back to him, pulling the blanket over herself. Her shoulders shook as she wept silently beneath it.
Shivank sat frozen for a moment, then moved closer.
He slowly wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her gently into the warmth of his bare chest. His touch was tender, hesitant, filled with silent apologies.
"Baby... I love you," he murmured against her shoulder, placing a soft kiss on her skin. "I love you. And only you."
Vaani turned, slowly facing him with her tear-streaked face. He immediately pulled her closer, their bodies aligning. Her hands were caught between them, fists clenched in emotional restraint.
"Mujhe dikh kyun nahi raha aapka pyaar?" she whispered brokenly. "Kahan gaya? Hawa ke saath udd gaya kya?"
"No," he shook his head. "Aise mat bolo, Vaani. Aise thodi hota hai."
