The Rock

God, You have placed before me a rock
I have set much atop it
A pile high to the sky
And yet I am afraid to touch it.

You call me to Your flock
I only dance and skirt it
You show me where I can fly
Yet I fight and bite it.

I choose instead to play in the sand.
I let my heart, an anchor, weigh me down.
I strap on my sins, a divers belt that pulls me down.
I lay down here, in constant fear.

Afraid of the light, afraid to walk on the land.
Though I know that You house all that I need
I hide away in fear of being seen
But now, once more, I ask that You would draw me here.

Bring my heart to the rock
Let my heart be grown from the seed
That it would grow lush and green
That I may know, I am one of the flock.
