I apologised to Sam for the pause in our conversation. "Don't worry about it, she seems really cool," he chuckled as we continued the now small walk to the bench at the top of the hill.

"Yeah, she's been my best friend since she was born," I shrugged but Sam chuckled.

"I could tell. Did you really teach her all that?" He t and I knew the time now was for the truth. A truth I had kept hidden for so long. We took a seat at the bench, looking over the view of the city a small distance away.

"The truth is- when my sister first had Kay she got postnatal depression and didn't want Kay. Even though I was still in high school I was given the responsibility of raising her. My sister couldn't do it and my parents are sick. My parents helped where they could but it was always me that fed her and stayed up with her while she cried through the night or comforted her when she was ill. My sister didn't care until I turned 18 and was put forward to take custody of Kay. My sister was getting all the child support so I had a shitty job that let me bring Kay with me and paid me under the table because I was too young to work legally, that's the only reason they denied me custody. Believed I couldn't support her even though I already had for years." I sighed thinking back, I know I missed out on a lot in my life to raise someone else's baby with no thanks from it but i wouldn't change it for the world. "My sister threatened to leave with Kay, we'd never see her again. She gave my parents the ultimatum of I move out or she does. She threatened my whole family that no one was to even acknowledge what I had done for years. No one was to talk about it or even think about it too loud. Anyways, I got a shitty apartment I paid for with my own money from my bad job and had to buss on the street for money for food. I got on my feet, found my sound and started getting all I have now. Kay and I kept contact and would see each other. She didn't stop calling me mum until she was 15 even though my sister was correcting her every time. Even then Kay explained she only stopped calling me mum because she was sick of Hades voice," I chuckled as I shook my head at the memory. "She did it a few times when no one was around but it didn't seem right so eventually she stopped. She still gives me Mother's Day cards though" I expressed making Sam smile warmly as he watch me. I sighed. "In preparation to moving here I moved in back home just while I waited for the house to be ready. My sister saw that Kay and I were still close and she had no idea we stayed in touch. She was furious and there were a lot of arguments but I wouldn't change it for the world." I rambled. Sighing once I was done. Sam seemed to look dazed like he was still processing my words. "Sorry, I didn't mean to trauma dump on you like that. I've just never told anyone before," I explained but Sam scoffed.

"You have nothing to apologise for you're amazing. I wouldn't have the strength to do that even for a month never mind most of your life. You're Kay's guardian angel." He expressed. I chuckled as I nodded.

"In all honesty I think she's mine. I call her angel all the time, if it wasn't for her I would probably be working a dead end office job. Because of Kay I moved here and have amazing neighbours and just got signed a record deal. I can't believe it, it feels like a dream." I chuckled but Sam smiled brightly.

"It's karma giving you the kindness you gave her," he exclaimed, and I thought about it for a second. I suppose he's right. I've just never thought about it that way. Sam chuckled before jumping up from the seat. He climbed up so he was a the highest point on the bench. "Danni, is my best friend!" He shouted as loud as he could. I snorted as I laughed he's as ridiculous as I am. "Danni is Kay's mom!" He screamed and I knew I had to join him. I jumped onto the seat, standing beside him.

"Sam is my best friend!" I shouted with a wide grin. "Sam is a guardian angel!" I screamed and it seemed to echo in the hills. We laughed as we listened.

"Danni will make Colby the happiest man alive!" Sam shouted making me blush.

"Sam will always be the best thing that's happened to Colby," I shouted. He laughed as he climbed on the bench. I laughed as I sat down and he sat beside me. We stayed quiet a little while just admiring the view.

"You know, I can't think of anyone better that could have moved in next door," Sam added making me chuckle.

We stayed sat at the bench a while, laughing and sharing stories. Once we almost finished our waters we knew we should start heading back. The whole walk back we were smiling like the happiest people in the world, people passing us must have thought we were crazy. We made plans for the evening we were happy to involve Colby in. We organised having a movie night as the three of us and getting Taco Bell. As soon as I explained I'd never tried it he demanded we get it as he explained he has it everyday. I laughed believing it was a joke but when he kept a straight face I wondered if he was being honest.
We got back to his car, driving to Walmart to get snacks and grabbing Taco Bell on the way home. I checked my phone while Sam ordered the food. He already expressed he was ordering a bit of everything so I can try it all plus he wants a lot anyway. I saw a text from an unsaved number and smiled widely. I opened it up knowing it was Colby.

"Hey, beautiful! Hope you're keeping your promise of letting me stay at yours tonight 😂. Hope you and Sam are having fun, don't eat without me ❤️" I smiled as I read it but noticed it was sent nearly an hour ago. I saved his number and hurried a reply.
"Hey handsome! Just grabbing Taco Bell and coming back. We've planned for the three of us to watch a movie, hope you're happy with that 😂 you don't have a choice. We've got snacks and Sams ordering Taco Bell but we haven't decided a movie so you might as well pick something now because we'll be back soon. Of course I haven't forgot my promise, I'm looking forward to it 😁❤️" I blushed as I typed hoping the message was okay. I send it before reading it again Because I knew I would overthink it.
"I'll start picking now. Blankets and I will be on the couch waiting 🖤❤️"
How adorable is he?! I smiled at Sam letting him know what Colby had said while we waited for food. We'll be seeing Colby again soon. I can't wait!
