Christine loved rehearsing at Jeremy's house with him. Sometimes they'd invite other cast members over too, but today it was just the two of them, running A Little Fall of Rain. Sometimes, like today, Jeremy's dad would sit in the kitchen nearby to watch and give his feedback.
His feedback usually just consisted of "good work" and "keep it up" and it was appreciated by both of them.
Jeremy was taking a bathroom break when Mr Heere decided to speak up, "You know, can I just say... you kids really sound great, but... your death is... kind of awkward."
Christine blinked, "What do you mean?" She was a bit hurt at the comment. She built a lot to her death scene after all, so to learn it was awkward? She'd been practicing this with Jeremy so much.
Mr Heere frowned, "I don't mean any harm by it, I'm sorry. I don't know a lot about this stuff, and I don't want to hurt your feelings."
Christine took a breath. As an actress she should've been better at taking feedback, but she still struggled sometimes. However, she knew he really was just trying to help, so she nodded, "It's fine. Explain it to me! I really want this scene to be as good as it can be."
Mr Heere hesitated, but seemingly upon seeing Christine was sure, he continued, "Well, for the entire song, you're leaning into Jeremy for his support, because you're dying. Which makes sense. It looks normal. But then suddenly, during your last words, you sit up to lean back into the coffee table instead."
Christine blinked a couple of times. The coffee table was supposed to be her spot where she ended before she was taken off stage by the school boys. "What would you have me do instead?"
Mr Heere seemed to think for a moment, then smiled, "Well, what if you die in his arms, and then let him lay you back on the table after you're already dead? That way the after part of the scene doesn't have to change, but the getting there is more... realistic?"
As he said that, Jeremy walked back into the room, so Christine nodded, "Yeah! Yeah, let's try it."
