Jake had never been more stressed in his life.  It was their last weekend before performances, so, to celebrate a successful project, Jake's entire friend group, as well as a few other members of the cast, were at Michael's house watching the Les Mis movie musical in his basement.

This honestly should've been a stress free event.  What could go wrong from him watching a movie?  Unfortunately, he was overthinking.  Big time.  Because this was his first time at Michael's house since they'd started dating, and Jake was terrified of messing things up with his moms.

Michael had been curled against his side on the couch down there until Jake finally decided he needed a second.  So, he excused himself upstairs to go pee.

In his haste to give himself a breather, he forgot that upstairs was where Michael's moms were.

"Hello, Jake." He heard from behind him, and sure enough, there was Michael's mom, smiling at him, "Did you need something dear?"

Jake swallowed, "Just was looking for the bathroom.  Down the hall on the left, right?"

The woman nodded, "That's right.  Before you go, Jake, I want to say something.  Can I do that?  I may not get another chance to say this."

Jake froze in place, fear crawling up his spine and settling in his neck.  He simply nodded.

"Well... I just wanted to say I'm really happy you came into Michael's life." She started, keeping her voice low, "You make him so happy, you know, just being there for him.  He needed someone like you.  He needed more people in his life that cared about him."

Jake opened his mouth in surprise, wanting to say something but not knowing what.  After a moment, he landed on a quiet, "Thank you," with the biggest smile on his face.

She pat his shoulder and he walked to the bathroom to give himself that minute he'd come up for.

He was feeling a lot better already.
