Rich met Jake on the way to rehearsal and had a spring in his step.  The closer they got to dress rehearsals, the closer he was to losing this bet with Susie.  So, he needed to give him a push.  Nobody said anything about getting involved in the bet.

"So... you know Michael-" Rich started off, but was immediately cut off.

"This better be good, man, everyone's been talking about Michael," Jake started off, "I don't have a thing with him, man, we're just friends."

Rich paused and then shook his head, "That's a load of bullshit and you know it.  I know your tells better than anyone, man.  You've been flirting with him for weeks, and Michael's not hard to read either.  You're into him, and I'm pretty sure he's into you too.  Why don't you just ask him out?"

Jake got quiet for a minute, then sighed, "Look, fine, I do have a thing for Michael.  But like- I dunno, he doesn't seem like he's looking for a relationship or anything, and why the fuck would he like me, anyway?  I feel like it's hopeless."

Rich put a hand on his arm, "Dude, Michael is totally into you.  I get that you're nervous, honestly, but I've never been more sure of anything like this before.  I think he's probably scared you don't like him, and is waiting for you to make the first move."

"You really think so?" Jake looked at him with serious and pleading eyes.

"I know so." Rich responded as they made it to the upstairs auditorium doors, "Tell him how you feel."

Jake peaked inside and saw Michael was already in there, and after taking a breath, he nodded, "Okay.  Okay.  I'm gonna do it.  Thanks, Rich."

"Of course, man." Rich responded, then pat his back as he left him to it.

He was winning this bet if it killed him.
