Chapter 16: Doc's First Kiss and Chris' Gift

Later That Night.....
Saturday September 5th 1885
11:27PM

Doc and Clara went back to her house, and the night was still young, Clara then got her telescope which Doc fixed the day before, and she was showing Doc the different constellations in the stars above.

You see that constellation up there, the one sits there like a starburst?, that ones called Copernicus said Clara

Doc was very surprised, that constellation was how he named his first dog back in 1955, Doc then stared back at Clara, his heart skipped a beat, she was truly beautiful, he couldn't help but feel a warm feeling inside, Clara noticed him just staring and couldn't help but chuckle he was acting like her students at the schoolhouse whenever they weren't paying attention it was very adorable.

Listen to me, I feel like I'm teaching school said Clara

Oh No, please continue the lesson, I never found lunar geography so fascinating, you're quite knowledgeable said Doc

When I was eleven I had diphtheria, I was quarantined for 3 months said Clara as she recalled the memory of first recieving her telescope "So, my father bought this telescope and put it next to my bed so that I can see everything out the window"

Clara and Doc took a break from stargazing and took the time to look at the beautiful night sky, the twinkling stars, the sounds of the chirping crickets and the big bright moon, it was very serene.

Emmett, do you think we'll be able to travel to the moon the way we travel across the country on trains? Clara asked Doc

Definitely, although not for another 84 years and not on trains Doc answered "we'll have space vehicles, capsules settle off on rockets, devices that create explosions, explosions so powerful they-"

"they break the pull of the earth's gravity pull and send their projectile to outer space"

Doc was surprised, Clara knew the quote, they had more in common then he thought, first they both had a love for science and they both had a love for the author Jules Verne, he and Clara then started geeking over their favourite author.

Emmett!, I read that book too, you're quoting Jules Verne "From the Earth to the Moon" said Clara

You've read Jules Verne?! asked Doc

I adore Jules Verne said Clara

So do I, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" my absolute favourite, the first time I read that when I was a little boy I wanted to meet Captain Nemo said Doc

Oh please Emmett, you couldn't have read that when you were a little boy, it was only first published 10 years ago said Clara

Oh yes, well I meant it made me feel like a boy said Doc

Doc couldn't deny it as much he wanted to, he had developed feelings for Clara, and he could tell she felt the same way, they had feelings, no, they loved each other,  they were perfect for each other.

I've never met a woman who likes Jules Verne before said Doc

I've never ever met a man like you before said Clara

Their hearts beat in unison, then they then leaned closer, and closer and then they shared a beautiful kiss as a shooting star flew by.

Meanwhile....
Back with Chris and Sarah, Chris took Sarah to this beautiful field just on the outskirts of town, which in the future would become the site of the Peabody Farm, and later in 1985 the Lone Pine Mall, Chris and Sarah lied down on the grass staring at the stars above.

It's so beautiful, Isn't it? said Sarah

Yes, It Is said Chris

As Chris and Sarah looked up at the night sky, Sarah reached out to hold Chris' hand, and Chris returned the gesture, Chris and Sarah's hearts were thumping in their chests, Chris knew this was the perfect moment to give Sarah her gift he made.

Uh Sarah, I want to give you something said Chris

What is it? asked Sarah

Close your eyes, don't peek said Chris

Sarah kept her eyes closed as Chris reached into his pocket and pulled out his gift for her, a necklace with a shiny blue sapphire gemstone from the Delgado Mines, Sarah kept her eyes closed and he put it around her neck.

Alright, you can open your eyes said Chris

Sarah then opened her eyes and saw the beautiful gemstone necklace around her neck.

Oh Chris, it's beautiful said Sarah

Chris and Sarah looked each other, they leaned closer and closer, but before they could get any closer Chris suddenly backed away, he suddenly remembered about the "New Girl" back in his time, he felt like he was doing something wrong.

I can't, I just can't said Chris

What's wrong? asked Sarah

"Sarah, I like you, I do, I really like you but- Chris struggled to say "I'm in love with this other girl and-, never mind I should probably go"

Chris, wait said Sarah

Sarah and Chris sat back down on the grass, as Chris poured out his feelings to her.

This other girl, what's her name? asked Sarah

I don't even know her name, she probably doesn't even know I exist said Chris

If you're in love with this other girl, then haven't you asked her out? asked Sarah

Because I'm scared, scared of being rejected, I may act brave Sarah, but deep down I'm terrified said Chris " but when I'm with you I'm not scared, these past few months you made me feel courageous, like I can truly be myself, Sarah, I.., I Love You"

"Chris"

Sarah leaned in closer and then her lips and Chris' met, and Chris felt like he was on Cloud 9, he kissed her back, it was a short kiss, but a sweet first kiss.

I love you too said Sarah

Chris and Sarah then lied back down on the grass, holding each other's hands, so happy to declare their love for each other, but at the same time Chris knew it probably wouldn't last forever, he had go back to the future with Marty, Doc and O'Connor and some point he had to tell her truth, but for now he was enjoying it while it lasted.
