Chapter 18: Heartbreaks and Revelations

Later that Night....
Sunday September 6th 1885
10:37PM

Clara in her house was sitting quietly at her deck grading her students homework when she suddenly heard a knock on her door.

"It's Emmett, Clara"

Clara opened the door and saw Doc on the front porch, and he had a sad look on his face, he wasn't prepared for this, but he had to say goodbye.

Emmett, won't you come in? said Clara

No I'd better not said Doc

What's wrong? asked Clara as she noticed the expression on Doc's face

I've come to say goodbye said Doc

Goodbye?, well where are you going? Clara asked

I'm going away, and well I'm afraid I'll never see you again said Doc

Clara's smile disappeared and was instead replaced with a look of sadness and confusion.

Clara, I want to you to know that I care about you deeply said Doc "but I realized that I don't belong here and I have to go back where I came from"

Where might that be? asked Clara

I can't tell you said Doc

Well wherever you're going take me with you said Clara

I can't, Clara, I wish it didn't happen to be this way but please believe when I tell that I'll never forget you and that I love you said Doc

I don't understand what you're trying to say said Clara confused

Clara, I don't think there's any way you can understand it said Doc

Please Emmett, I have to know, If you sincerely do love me then tell me the truth said Clara

Clara was right she deserved to know the truth, Doc then took a deep breath and told her everything, he only hoped she understood.

Alright...I'm from the future Doc revealed "I came here in a Time Machine that I invented, and tomorrow I have to back to the year 1985"

Yes Emmett, I do understand said Clara

Doc was relieved that Clara understood he felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders, but that feeling quickly washed away as Clara started raising her voice and started getting angry and upset.

"I understand because you know I'M PARTIAL TO THE WRITINGS OF JULES VERNE, YOU CONCOCTED THOSE MENDACITIES IN ORDER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ME"

Clara then slapped Doc across the cheek, she was so upset and heartbroken .

"Oh I've heard some whoppers in my day but the fact that you expect me to entertain a notion like that is so insulting and degrading" yelled Clara as she was on the verge of tears

"All you had to say was I don't love you and I don't want to see you anymore that at least would've been respectful"

But that's not the truth! said Doc

Clara then slammed down in Doc's face, she didn't even bother listening to him, Doc then felt tears running down his eyes, he was very heartbroken that he'd lost the love of his life forever, Doc then took the pinned flower Clara gave to him, left on her windowsill and walked away, all while Clara crashed onto her bed and started crying.

Meanwhile.....
Chris finally reached Sarah's house, he went up to her front door and knocked, he wasn't ready for this but had to do it, he had to tell Sarah the truth, Sarah then answered the door he was happy to see him.
