Chapter 20: Train Ride to the Future

Monday September 7th 1885
8:31AM

The train chugged along the tracks of Coyote Pass, Doc, Marty, Chris and O'Connor rode their horses as fast as they could to reach the train.

Doc then reached the back of the train and then jumped off his horse and onto the train.

Come on Marty!, give me your hand! Doc called out

Marty then reached over and grabbed onto Doc's hand and he jumped onto the train, then Marty reached out his hand to Chris and with his and Doc's strength were able to pull him onboard, but unfortunately there wasn't any space for O'Connor to jump aboard , luckily Chris had an idea.

O'Connor, meet us at the switch track! yelled Chris

You got it! said O'Connor giving the thumbs up

As O'Connor rode his horse ahead, Doc, Marty and Chris climbed up to the top of the train, and jumped from car to car to get to the locomotive, Doc then jumped onto a car of logs.

Come on, boys! Doc

Marty and Chris then jumped onto the logs, they all then carefully balanced on them, until they finally reached the locomotive.

Masks on! said Doc

Doc, Marty and Chris then put their bandannas over their faces to disguise themselves they then reached the engine room where the engineer was steadily driving the train, Doc then pulled out his pistol and pointed it at his back.

Reach! Doc exclaimed

The engineer then turned around to see Doc, Marty and Chris holding a pistol, he held his hands up as he thought this was some sort of robbery.

Is this a holdup? the engineer asked very scared

It's a science experiment, stop the train just before you hit the switch track up ahead! Doc demanded

The engineer obeyed and he stopped the train right in front of the switch track where O'Connor stood waving at them, Marty and Chris then got off the train, and they along with O'Connor flipped the switch track and the rails were now going in the direction towards Shonash Ravine.

Uncouple the cars from the tender! Doc demanded the engineer

The engineer obeyed and was able to separate the rest of the train cars from the locomotive, After Marty, Chris and O'Connor got on board Doc then shifted the lever and the train started chugging along, Doc then found the engineer's hat and he put it on his head as he blew the whistle.

I wanted to do that all my life! said Doc

The locomotive finally arrived at the abandoned silver mine where they left the DeLorean, as soon as the train stopped, they suddenly got off to retrieve something from the DeLorean, Marty then carried three strange-looking logs that were the colours green, yellow and red over to Doc.

What are these things anyway? Marty asked Doc

My own version of presto-logs said Doc "compressed wood with anthracite dust, chemically treated to burn hotter and longer, I use them in my forge so I don't have to stoke it"

So what are these things for? Chris asked

These three in the furnace will ignite sequentially, make the fire burn hotter, kick up the boiler pressure and make the train go faster Doc explained

After Doc was handed the presto-logs, he went over to the locomotive to start it, while Marty, Chris and O'Connor went over to the DeLorean, but before O'Connor entered the Time Machine, he looked back at what he was leaving behind, even though he spent the last three years suffering from his aunt's abuse and living on her rundown farm, he was going to miss living in the 19th century especially the time he spent with his father and mother before they passed, but at the same time he was glad to be leaving it all behind, he was going to have a real home and be part of a loving, caring family, and live life in 1985 as a normal kid, and as for Chris he was excited to show him the new wave and synth pop music of the 1980's.
