Summary: As the time to go back to the Isles nears, Camila talks to Luz about her leaving again.

Luz, Amity, Gus, Willow, and Hunter came inside and, all of them who had one, took off the concealment stones Gus had made each of them to hide their ears.

They were all super happy as after another day of hard work, they were getting really close to being able to go back to the isles.

As the group began to head upstairs to talk about what their plan is for when they get back, Camila came out of the kitchen.

"Luz," She softly said, "Can you come here? I want to talk to you."

While the others just moved on upstairs, Luz was suddenly filled with panic.

She forgot she hadn't told her mom that she's going back yet and it seemed to be getting really close to when she would need to.

Luz went into the kitchen with Camila and they sat down at the table.

"So, uh, what'd you wanna talk about mamá?" Luz asked with an awkward chuckle.

"You and your friends are getting close to recreating a portal," Camila began, "And I can tell you are going with them. Back to that place."

"Mom, why would you think tha-"

Luz stopped mid sentence when Camila pulled out the poster board her and the rest of the group made one late night when they were trying to figure out how to recreate a portal. She remembers that they all fell asleep making it and her mom moved them upstairs. At the top of it was one sentence she knew she wrote, and her mom probably did too.

"How to get home"

"You see that place as more of a home than here?" Camila asked, tearing up and voice breaking slightly.

"Look, mom," Luz tried to recover, "When I said home, I meant their home because they're from the Isles and outnumber me so it makes more sense to-"

"Luz, tell me honestly. Do you see that place as more of a home than here?"

Luz paused before sighing and looking at the ground.

"In some ways, yeah. Sure I was born and raised here in the human realm, but the demon realm was something else. I felt like I finally belonged. So while this place is my home, the only thing making it home is you. The Boiling Isles feel so much more like home for me. And it's not your fault at all. But in just a few months, I felt like I belonged way more than I ever did in 14 years here."

Luz stared at the tiles on the kitchen floor, sucking in a breath as she waited for the ensuing lecture.

Instead, Luz felt a light kiss on her forehead. She looked up into her mothers eyes and saw not anger, but a hopeful expression.

"I was angry at first when I saw the poster. Furious even. But, then I was just sad. Not that you saw it as home, but that I wasn't the one who could give you that feeling. All I ever wanted for you was to make friends. And, you did. This world just wasn't the place you needed to make them.

So, I'm not mad or disappointed in you. I'm not going to try to make you stay. If that place feels like home, then the best thing I can do for you is to let you go there."

Camila went over to the kitchen sink, opened up the cabinets under it, and pulled out a small wooden box and a key on a necklace. She set it down on the table and slid it over to Luz, before taking her seat again.

"When I realized you were going to go and I couldn't stop you, I made you this. So, whenever you go back, if you ever miss me too much, open it and look inside," Camila reached over and held Luz's face in her hand, "I love you so much. And I'll never stop missing you. But, I'm not going to keep you away from your home and the people who need you."

Luz finally broke and started crying. Camila pulled her into a tender hug and just let her get everything out. Eventually Luz did pull away.

"Thank you." She whispered.

Luz took the box, put on the key necklace, and went upstairs. Camila wiped away a final tear she had and put away the poster with the plan on it back with all the other planning stuff.

After a few days, the group managed to complete the portal and create a new door. And, thankfully, it did lead back to the isles. It was unstable, but it worked.

Everyone was ecstatic to go back. Willow, Gus, and Hunter all rushed through. Amity paused before going through so she could leave Luz, Camila, and Vee to their goodbyes.

"Vee, you were like the sister I never knew I needed. Thank you so much for being there for my mom while I was gone. I'm so happy that you're doing so much better."

"Well it's all thanks to you, Luz. So thank you."

The two hugged, and when they released each other Luz looked at Camila, not knowing what to say.

"I...I don't know when's the next time I can make a new portal and-"

"It's okay. Now go. Your friends need you."

Luz gave Camila a quick hug before rushing through the portal, making it through just before it collapsed in on itself.

Luz was shocked to see the state the isles were in, though not as much as the others who were devastated to see the place they grew up and lived for so long in such bad shape.

They quickly found a familiar face in the form of Eda who was flying around in her harpy form. She was so glad they all were alive and gave them all strange pendants with the same symbol as King's collar before leading them all to a hideout at the knee.

Everyone had tearful reunions with their families and were filled in on the situation. Then, Eda led the group to their sleeping area where they could settle in.

As the others put their things in trunks they were provided, Luz sat on her cot and stared at the small box. Curious and already missing her mom, she used the key and unlocked the box.

As she looked inside, she almost immediately began crying.

It was full of pictures of Luz, Camila, Vee, and her friends. There were a few small mementos from the human realm. Even at the bottom as a small ring box with the note attached reading "for when you and your awesome girlfriend are old enough"

At the bottom of the box was an envelope and inside a letter from Camila to Luz.

"Dear Luz,

As I am writing this, you are set to go back to the demon realm tomorrow. And that thought is terrifying. I've had you back for a few weeks and you're already going again. But I know that everything you're doing is for the people you care about, the people you love, the new family you've made.

I am so proud of you and the amazing person you have become. I know you would have never learned half the things you have from living here.

I hope that someday you'll be able to return, but even if you can't, that's okay.

And if you don't want to, that's okay too.

I will never stop loving you, no matter what happens or how long you're gone.

And I know your new life is in the isles.

Because, the isles are your home.

With all my love,

Mom."
