Summary: Luz wakes up one morning, expecting to be sent to Reality Check Summer Camp. Instead, she finds several people she doesn't know who claim to be witches from another world. Even weirder than that, they also claim to be her friends.

Luz jolted up in bed in the middle of the night, gasping for air. She had had a weird dream and felt like her body was just going at terminal velocity, but it was fine. She was fine.

Since she was already awake and too energized to go back to sleep, she decided she might as well grab some water from the kitchen. Quietly as she could, she walked out of her room, avoiding all the shadowy lumps on the ground which she couldn't remember being there before but brushed off as just clothes she hadn't put in her hamper or in her bag to take to camp. She slowly walked downstairs, went into the kitchen, turned on a light, grabbed a glass and filled it with tap water, then sat on the counter, looking outside as she slowly drank it.

She knew she'd be tired in the morning if she stayed up too long, but it was peaceful when everyone else was asleep. Just staring out at the empty streets was nice. She could almost fall asleep right there, leaning against the cabinets as she listened to the slight hum of the fridge and the faint sound of the bugs outside and looked out at the streetlights. After a while, she did eventually doze off for a few minutes but was awoken by the sound of footsteps entering the kitchen. She jerked awake, nearly falling off the counter, but relaxed when she saw her mom standing just inside the kitchen.

"Hey mama. Did I wake you up with the lights?" Luz asked.

"No, I just couldn't sleep. I'm not surprised that you couldn't either. It's been a long 24 hours, hasn't it?"

"Yeah. It really has."

After a slightly awkward pause, Camila walked over to Luz, who got off the counter. They stood next to each other and looked outside.

"It's a good thing it stopped raining." Camila said, trying to get a conversation going.

"It was raining earlier?"

"Yeah. I guess you were too busy to notice."

"Probably."

"Your hair looks nice. Did you cut it?"

"A while ago, yeah. With a sword."

"That one from the covention?"

"I don't have any others."

There was another bit of awkward silence, and this time Luz was the one to break it.

"I don't want to go." She whispered, "I don't want to leave you."

"You don't?" Camila gasped.

"No. I don't. I know that I've screwed up so much and...and I have to go but."

"Luz if you don't want to go, that's okay. You can stay here."

"Really?" Luz asked, smile forming.

"Of course not. Now come here," Camila said, extending her arms, "We haven't hugged in far too long."
