Summary: With no other ideas on how to beat the Collector, Luz uses an old trick to defeat them
"Oh come on, you really can't give up that easily! We still have so many games to play!"
Everyone stared up at the Collector as he taunted them.
It was over. There was nothing they could do.
They failed.
"I can't believe you actually got my best friend to try and trap me again. Ha! Like I'd fall for that. Now come on King, let's get back to Owl House!"
Luz weakly tried to crawl over to her friends. Willow and Gus were leaning on each other, bloody and exhausted. Amity was curled up into herself, trying to deal with the pain of her injuries. Eda was back in her normal form, the curse ripped out of her by the Collector, making her both unable to go into her harpy form, but too weak to do magic. Hunter laid still with his eyes wide open, dead and still thanks to Belos going into him, then the Collector killing him to kill Belos.
"Eda, Eda come on. We can still fight." Luz cried, lightly shaking Eda once she got over to her, "We-we can still get King. We can still save everybody."
"Kid, we can't win this one." Eda coughed, "The only way the Collector was sealed was King's dad tricking him. There's no way we can do that again."
"Luz, she's right." Willow groaned, "We lost. We can't save this. All we can do is hope this game doesn't kill us."
"Our hubris from our past victories has failed us." Gus sighed.
"Real life isn't like a storybook. We don't always get happy endings." Amity sighed.
"At least all us weirdos were able to stick together in the end." Eda said with a weak chuckle.
Luz looked between all her friends, terrified at the thought of actually giving up after having fought so long.
"No. No no no. We can take them down. Come on, there has to be some way. Eda, the curse is gone, you can use your magic again. Amity, Gus, Willow, you guys are some of the strongest witches I know. We've won so many times. This-this can't be the end."
"Luz, just accept it. We can't just poof our problems away with magic."
Eda's words made Luz gasp, reminding her of one last chance they had.
"You're right. We can't. I remember when you taught me that. But maybe, there's a way this time we can."
Luz grabbed her staff and used it to pull herself up, using it to hold herself up as she walked over to the Collector and King.
"Hey!"
They both turned around, King looking terrified and the Collector being confused but slightly excited.
"Human? What is it? Do you want to join? Oh! Do you have some human game we can play?"
"No, but I do know one that's loads of fun. Eda taught it to me as a way to help when friends aren't seeing eye-to-eye. And with such a big fight, I'd say that applies."
"Really? How do you play?"
The Collector was beaming. Luz smiled at King as she lifted up her staff above her head. The wheels began to turn in King's head.
"King, step back a bit buddy." Luz said sweetly, a tear forming in the corner of her eye.
"What are you...wait, Luz, no!"
Luz spun her staff and tossed it in the air.
"Body swap!"
A beam of light shot down and a cloud of smoke covered them.
As the smoke cleared, everyone stared as the Collector stood stoically as Luz fell to the ground.
"Wha-what did you do to me, Human?" The Collector, now in Luz's body, demanded, overwhelmed with pain and confusion.
Luz, now in the Collector's body, took her staff and unscrewed her Palisman.
"I need you to get out of here, okay? Find Bat Queen. She'll take care of you. I'm so sorry."
Her palisman did as it was told and fled. Luz kneeled down in front of King who was on the verge of crying, having an idea of what Luz was doing.
"Buddy, I need you to seal me away, okay? Have the others explain things to my mom. Tell her I love her."
Luz stuck out her pinky to King.
"Luz, I-I can't do this to you." He cried.
"You can't stop the Collector or trick them. But if they can't get their powers back, it'll be safe."
"Why can't you just live like this?"
"I know they'll try to figure out how to swap back. This is the only way." Luz leaned over and gave King a kiss on the forehead, "Now, I need you to seal me away in that mirror world. Can you pinky swear to that?"
King stared at her hand before nodding and wiping away a tear.
"Okay. I pinky swear."
King wrapped his pinky finger around Luz's and with that, Luz was suddenly sucked into a small purple mirror with a sun on it. The mirror clattered to the ground and King carefully picked it up.
"No, no, no! This wasn't how the game was supposed to go!" The Collector whined, unable to bring themselves up to stand, "King, please, let them out so I can have my body back. We can play whatever you want. Please!"
King walked right past them without a word. Past the Collector, past Eda, past Gus, Willow, and Amity, past Hunter. He grabbed Luz's tattered and discarded witches wool cloak and wrapped it around the mirror.
"You were the best big sister I could ask for, Luz."
King dropped the mirror down into the depths of the Head and turned back to everyone else who were all sad and confused, all of them but Eda wondering what just happened.
