Summary: Using Gus' illusion magic and some help from Flapjack, Hunter is able to go through his memories. Even the ones of previous versions.
"Wait, are you even sure this will work?" I asked nervously.
"In theory, yes. From what Flapjack has told you, you know grimwalkers are made from the remains of previous Guards. So, parts of you are also parts of them. With the fact you have the parts of past versions and with Flapjack's memories of them filling in gaps, I should be able to let you go through your brain to meet the previous Guards." Gus explained, grabbing the magnifying glass he stole from head witch Adrian, "Especially with this to help amplify the magic."
"Man, this is just like this one episode of one of my favorite shows: Nora Galaxy." Luz said.
"Except this is real, not just a cartoon," Willow said, "Gus, you're positive this is safe?"
"Well, no. But, if anything goes wrong I can stop the spell. And, since we're using Flapjack's memories to assist, he'll be there with Hunter the whole time."
"But, if this works, we could learn more info on Belos?" Amity asked.
"Based on what Luz and I saw in his mind, it seems reasonable that the guards will know things."
"Exactly! This is kinda like you going into the paintings of your own mind that are just hidden deep in your forest of memories." Gus happily exclaimed, "Alright, you ready dude?"
I looked around the room.
All my friends are here. They're trustworthy.
Besides, we need this information if we want any chance of getting home and stopping the Collector. Without Belos himself and no time pools to talk to Phillip, this is all we got.
"Yeah, I'm ready." I said with an exhale.
"Great. Now, just close your eyes and relax. Try to focus on your earliest memories, as far back as you can go."
I closed my eyes and slowly breathing, trying to see how far back I could go.
I remember when I got my staff. I remember Belos introducing me to the coven heads. I remember setting up my room in the castle. I remember Belos sneaking me in.
I remember clawing out of the ground, newly created, and getting my hands cut up as I did.
And, faintly, I remember the feeling of petrification creeping up my body.
Suddenly, the air around me turns cold. I open my eyes and find myself in the garden behind the palace. In front of me is the statue dedicated to my predecessor.
I remember the first day I came here. It was weird, and sad. I don't know why but every time I've visited I've felt this sense of emptiness.
I walked up to the statue, examining.
"I don't think Gus sent me back far enough." I mumbled.
Flapjack flew over and landed on the statue's shoulder. He nuzzled against its face.
