Summary: 16 years ago, when Darius had just become the head of the abomination coven, he had to save the life of the man who would not just become his mentor, but his closest friend.

Darius laid down on the lounge in his room, exhausted from the day, still not used to how busy he'd be as a coven head.

He had just become the head of the Abomination coven 6 months ago and was still working as hard as he could to prove he could take the place of his predecessor. He was able to become coven head thanks to his skill and finding new things that could be done with abomination magic, but he was still the youngest coven head. Hopefully he wouldn't be the youngest for long as a few coven heads, specifically for Beast Keeping and Illusions, were getting around the age the previous Abomination head was when he retired. He'd also heard that the Emperor's coven heads, the Golden Guards, always retire or die quickly. He didn't know how old the current Golden Guard was, but he did know he was given the position over ten years ago.

Hopefully that meant it was only a matter of time before there would be a new Guard and Darius would stop being looked down on for his age.

As he pulled out his scroll to check up on his notifications, he heard the sound of feet thundering outside his room. He waited for them to stop, but they just kept coming. It became so annoying that he put his scroll away and stepped out. He was met with rows of what seemed like endless lines of scouts marching out. Confused, he reached out and grabbed a random scout and pulled them away.

"Scout! What is going on?" He demanded.

"Sir, that is classified." The scout nervously said.

"I am the head witch of the abomination coven. If I want you to explain what you're doing, you will answer me."

"With all due respect, head witch Demmone, the orders come from the Emperor himself."

Darius sighed and let go of the front of the scouts cape and brushed it down to get the wrinkles out.

"You know what, you're right. Say, what is your badge number?" Darius asked, a much more casual tone.

"Uh, 19205225."

Darius nodded, pulled out his scroll, and typed the badge number into the scout database search he had saved.

"Steve, is it? I see you're a new recruit. Graduated top of your class from Hexside. Beast keeping coven? Very nice. Your father passed away a few years ago, and your mom just remarried. No siblings currently, but it seems your mother went to the healing coven the other day to get something to fix your step-fathers infertility. She's in the potions coven but didn't do well in school and couldn't get a decent job. However, with more children come more financial aid for those who are struggling. As the remedy needs multiple doses and is expensive, it'll be hard to afford. Now, as a coven head I work with the head of the healing coven. And it'd be easy to convince them to raise the prices of such products. Then again, it'd be equally easy to get them to lower the prices. So, what'll it be?"
