"Get him out of there now!"
My eyes popped open and I shot up, taking in my surroundings. I was in a large room, on a metal rolling table, surrounded by people and machines. "Who the hell are you?!" I asked frantically, not earning an answer. "I asked asked who the hell are you people?! Where is my wife and family, WHERE ARE THEY?!"
"He must not remember," one of the people said. I gave him a confused look and he carefully handed me a sheet of paper. "It's the agreement you signed."
"What agreement?" I looked over the paper, gazing down at my signature.
"We are running a brain simulator on some adults to see how they would react and handle being in an apocalyptic world. You're Glenn Rhee, you signed up because you said you needed the money that we offer to the people willing to let us do the simulator on them," the man said.
"That's ridiculous, I would remember agreeing to something like that!" I ripped off the wires that had been attached to my head.
"Why do you think you are in here then? Why is your signature on that sheet if paper that you are holding?" He asked.
I paused before speaking again, waiting for everything to sink in. "Well, how long was I in this so called simulator?"
"A week," he answered, making my jaw drop.
"A week?! That's it?! But years passed, I had a wife, a family!" I said.
"I'm sorry, Glenn. You will receive your check in the mail within the next few days," the man said and I stood up, walking out the door in shock.

As I was walking up the door to my house, I remembered something.
Emmie.
She had to be real, she just had to be. I ran as fast as I could and quickly unlocked the door, frantically searching the small living room and kitchen.
"Emmie? Emmie?!" I yelled out over and over again, running around the house. Once upstairs, I went to the room that was supposed to be Emmie's bedroom. My hand gripped the doorknob and I paused before slowly opening the door to find that it was just a plain old guest room, not my little girls room.
In shock, I made my way down the hallway and looked at the walls, expecting there to be pictures of Emmie, but there was nothing but an old painting.
Emmie never existed, none if those people did.
I pressed my back against the wall and slid down it, not wanting to believe any of what had happened. "Maggie.....Emmie, they aren't real," I cried softly to myself. Then, I suddenly couldn't even remember what they looked like. "No! They had to be real! They just had to of been real!" Tears soaked my cheeks, but I didn't care.
I just sat there for probably hours until I heard the doorbell ring. "It's probably those stupid guys," I said and wiped my eyes while making my way down the stairs and to the front door.
I opened the door where I saw a girl around my age with beautiful green eyes and brown hair that almost touched her shoulders. Next to her stood a little girl that looked about seven with brown eyes and long brown hair. They both looked so familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. "Um...hi," I said nervously.
"Hi, sorry to bother you, but I'm just trying to get my daughter to her friends house and I kinda got lost and my phone is out of charge. Could I ask you for directions?" The woman asked, holding the little girls hand.
"Oh yeah, of course. Come on in, you can use the laptop over there on the desk," I said with a smile pointing to the desk.
She returned the smile. "Thank you."
While she was looking up directions, I noticed the little girl looking at me. I reached in my pocket and loosely took a quarter in my fist. Next, I pretended to pull the coin out of her ear. The little girls eyes widened and a bright smile spread across her her face. I held out the coin to her and she looked at it before looking up at me. I nodded and she took it, still smiling.
"Alright, thank you so much!" The lady said and closed my laptop. "Come on Emmie, let's go."
Emmie?
They were almost out the door when I called out, "Wait!" The two turned around to face me. "I didn't get your name. I'm Glenn Rhee." I reached out my hand and she shook it, smiling up at me. Shes so beautiful.
"I'm Maggie, Maggie Greene."
