*Emmie's POV*

We made it. We made it to the school.

I jumped out of the car and looked at the large building, surrounded by a tall fence. Everyone gathered their things and started for the entrance. Suddenly, I felt a small crunch under my shoe. I lifted my foot to see a silver dog tag necklace on the ground. Out of curiosity, I picked it up and heard a soft beeping.

"Em, you gotta keep up," daddy said and I rushed over to him.

"Daddy, why is this necklace beeping?" I asked and held it out to him.

He sighed and put it in his coat pocket. "Some stranger gave it to Harper and I took it last night. It must've fallen out of my pocket."

"You should ask Rick about the beeping since he was a police officer. He might know how to figure it out," I said.

"Yeah.....I'll talk to him about it later."

Once we got to the gate, everyone was stopped. A chain and padlock was wrapped around the gate to keep it shut. Rick took out an axe.

"Wait!" I said and everyone turned to me. "If you break the lock, we will have no way to keep the gate shut."

"Then what do you think we should do?" Rick asked and put the axe back in his belt.

I walked to the gate and got on my knees. Next I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair and bent it. It only took about a minute for me to pick the lock and get the gate to open.

"I'm impressed," Rick laughed. "Did you know she could do that, Glenn?"

"No," he replied and I smirked.

"Okay, everyone be on your guard. We don't know what's in there," Rick said.

There were only a free walkers in the yard and parking lot, so it was easy to go right in.

The door made a loud creek as I opened it and stepped inside. Daryl nodded and everyone quietly started down the hall.

Everything was a mess. Papers, books, pencils, bags, and more were scattered everywhere. Some lockers were open with their contents spilled out on the floor.

"Look around and gather what you can," Rick whispered.

Then a walker stumbled out of one of the rooms. Daryl lifted his crossbow. I beat him to it and stabbed it with my knife. "Beat ya," I chucked and Daryl crossed his arms over his chest stubbornly.

He stuck his tongue out like a child and I did the same. He laughed and ruffled my hair.

I then slowly made my way to the row of lockers by the wall. It made a loud squeal when I pulled it open and a piece of paper fell out. I picked it up and read the note on the inside.

May 2, 2010

Julia, I will pick you up from school today instead of your brother. I have a special treat planned for us. Have a good day. I love you!

- Mom

I gulped and sighed. That was the day the dead came back. This girl probably never saw her mom again.

A picture that was taped to the inside of the locker caught my attention. It was a picture of who I was assuming was Julia, her brothers, and her parents. I threw the note to the ground and shut the locker door.

Why did all of this have to happen?

I felt a hand on my shoulder. "You okay?" Mom asked.

"Yeah," I sighed. "I'm good."

*Maggie's POV*

I noticed Emmie looked sad after she opened one of the lockers. I decided not to push it and just left her alone.

Harper lightly held my leg as we looked around, a scared expression on her face.

"Mommy, what is this place?" She asked.

I knelt down. "It's called a school. It's where kids went to learn before the walkers came. Emmie went to one like this."

"Will the monsters be here too?" She asked and stared at me with her big eyes.

"Well......they probably will be. Don't worry though, we will make sure that we kill them before we settle in," I told her and she nodded. "Hey, I have an idea."

"What?"

"If you can be a big girl until we clean out this floor, I'll help you find some new things for yourself. I'm sure there's a Kindergarden classroom somewhere around here. We can get some toys and books for you, Judith, and Landon."

"Really?" Her eyes showed her excitement.

"Yep. Just let me help clean out the place. You stay with Carol," I said and she nodded.

Once she was with Carol I went to a closed classroom door. I counted to three in my head.

1....2....3!

I swung the door open and my jaw dropped. Over fifty pairs of walker eyes turned to me and I slammed the door shut.

"Guys! There are tons of walkers in here!" I whispered yelled and a large group came to help.

"Maggie you open the door and let no more than two walkers out at a time, then shut it. We have to be able to handle them," Rick said and everyone help their weapons up. "One....two....three!"

I opened the door and two walkers stumbled out before I shut it.

We repeated this over and over again until none were left.

"I guess that's where all the walkers went," Tara said.

We settled into a classroom that night and made makeshift beds out of the beanbags and chair cushions we found in the other rooms. Carol, Tara, Rosita, and I found a Kindergarden classroom and got some picture books and toys for the younger kids. We even found clothes their size inside the cubbies.

I was sitting reading a book to Harper when Glenn called me over.

"I'll be right back sweetie," I said and kissed her head. She moved from my lap and I went over to Glenn, Rick, and Daryl.

"You said some random man gave Harper this?" Rick asked.

"And a gun," I said.

"And it's beeping?" Rick held the necklace to his ear. "There's only one thing to do." He took out a knife and broke it open. Inside was a small circuit board that had a blinking light. "I know exactly what this is. I used to see it all the time back when I would catch criminals."

"W-what is it?" I asked.

"It's a tracker," he replied. "Someone's tracking us."
