"So how come you are letting me shoot your crossbow?" I asked as I walked with Daryl in the woods.

"Well you've been asking me to teach you since the day you met me so I figured.....why not?" He said.

"Ya know what Daryl?"

"What kid?"

"You're not as mean as you look, you're like a big teddy bear," I chuckled.

"I'm fine with that, as long as I still have my crossbow," he said and I laughed. We entered a small clearing in the woods and Daryl stopped. "Right here." He walked a few meters away and set a empty can on a tree stump. "Now first off it'll be heavy and it's not easy to hold up for a long time."

I nodded and took the crossbow from his hands. "Here's your arrow." He held up to long sharp arrow and handed it to me. "Now put the head of the bow on the group and put the wire towards you."

I did as he instructed and pulled the wire back. "Good, now slid the arrow in," he said. I put the arrow in and held it up. "Not all crossbows have a scope but mines just so awesome so it does." I laughed at his comment earning one of his rare smiles. "So look through the scope just like you would with a sniper rifle, aim, and pull the trigger."

I breathed in a big breath and pulled the trigger. Within a split second, the arrow went threw the can and it fell off the stump. "I did it!" I squealed and jumped up and down.

"Pst, beginners luck," Daryl said.

"I'll make you a bet Dixon! If I hit that can three more times in a row, you owe me the next candy bar you find," I said.

"Your on kid."

And within minutes, I won the bet. "I'm a natural, just face it," I said.

"Yeah, naturally annoying," he laughed and I elbowed him. "Just kidding Em."

I jumped on his back and he carried me back to the house.

I tried not to toss and turn much that night concise ring I was sharing a queen sized bed with mom, daddy, and Harper. It was literally shoulder to shoulder with me and Harper in the middle. Dylan decided to start rooming with Carl so now we just all share the bed. We didn't mind though considering it was freezing outside.

My paranoia started to take over when I heard the wood of the house settling. I carefully crawled to the edge of the bed and went to the window. I lightly pressed my hand to the cold glass and pulled back the curtain.

The first thing I noticed was a man just standing outside, staring at me. I sucked in a breath and closed the curtain. My feet shuffled backwards and I bumped into the dresser, causing me to fall to the ground with a 'thud'.

Daddy shot up in bed and quickly scanned the room. When he saw it was just me he rubbed his eyes and sighed. "What's wrong Em?"

"I-I saw," I stuttered and he got out of bed. He shuffled over to me and helped me up. I pointed to the window. "I saw a man outside, just staring at me. What if it's the same guys as last time? What if they've found us and come back to get me? I don't want to go back there!"

"Hey, hey it's alright. They won't get you, I won't let that happen," he said and stroked my hair. He went to the window and slowly pulled back the curtain. I was clinging to his side as he looked outside. There was nobody. "Em, there nobody out there. You just imagined it."

"But I swear it was real," I said.

"You're just scared. Nobody's coming to get you," he said. "Now let's go back to bed."

I took one last look out the window before following daddy back to bed.

Every night the strange man got closer and closer to the window. Tonight he would be right in front of the glass. I think daddy knows that I get out of bed every night but he doesn't do anything.

I slowly sat up and bed and started to get out from under the covers when I felt someone push me back down.

"Oh no you don't," daddy said. "Em, there nobody out there. You're paranoid that's all."

"I swear there is a man out there," I whisper yelled. "Every night he gets closer to the window."

"Emerson go to bed!" He whispered.

"I-" I was cut off by a soft knocking on the window. Our eyes went wide and turned to look at they closed curtains. The knocking stopped for a moment before continuing.

Daddy started to shake mom and Harper awake. "Maggie, Harper wake up." Harper started to whine loudly and daddy clamped a hand over her mouth. "Get under the bed. Where's Mia?"

"With Tara, why?" Mom asked. "Glenn what's going on?"

"There's someone outside. No matter what happens or what you hear don't come out," daddy said. The two then crawled under the bed. "Emmie, go."

"No, I wanna see what's happening. He was looking at me for a reason all of these nights," I said. We went to both sides of the window and pulled back to curtain quickly. We both held up our guns.

And there he was. With his toothy grin and all black clothing. His teeth were a sick yellow color mixed with a greyish mold. His cheeks bones seemed to be caving in and the skin was wrinkly. I looked right into his dark brown eyes and it seemed like as each second ticked by, they were becoming darker and darker.

Daddy and I flinched as I slammed a piece of paper against the window. Printed on it in big black letters was:

You win.

Within a split second he whipped out his gun and shot right at me. The glass shattered and the bullet ever so slightly grazed my arm, drawing blood. I cried out and stumbled back. I hit the footboard of the bed and fell to the ground.

I heard another gunshot and the man fell to the ground dead. Daddy had shot him in the head. I quickly examined my arm and found an exit wound. It wasn't too bad, probably won't even need stitches.

Daddy rushed over and helped me up. "Are you okay?" He asked and looked me over.

"I'm fine," I said and he looked at my arm. "It doesn't hurt much. It barely grazed me."

I went to the window to where the man was laying dead outside. My eyes darted to the pin that was on his shirt. It was the same pin at all the men wore at the place I was kidnapped. I climbed out the window and took the sheet of paper. On the back a note was written.

Congratulations, you win. I'm the only one left. The factory was overrun by the dead after you saved that lady. The gunshots attracted 'em. They're all dead. I'm guessing that now I am too. But it'll just be a matter of time before you and your family is dead due to another group or the dead. YOU WIN....for now.
