*Emmie's POV*

Once I saw Harper hanging three stories in the air, I took off out the door without a word. I dashed down the hallway and up the stairs to the third floor entrance. The doors were shut, so I crossed my fingers, hoping they wouldn't be locked. My shaking hand wrapped around the handle and tried to open the door. Of course it just had to be locked.

I frantically looked around the small hallway for another way to help my sister.

The window.

There was four windows on one side of the hallway that looked down upon the courtyard. I quickly went to one of them and unlatched the locks at the top. When I poked my head out into the night air I immediately was hit with large beads of rain. I took in a deep breath before stepping out of the hallway and onto the small ledge on the outside wall of the building. Harpers cries for help only made it harder to concentrate on not falling. My first mistake was looking down.

That is a long way down.

"Emerson what the hell are you doing?!" My head whipped to the first floor window where dad was yelling at me to come down. Everyone was freaking out and couldn't figure out what to do.
I ignored everyone yelling at me and started to move along the ledge that I was standing on. The rain made the process a lot slower and scarier.

After a couple of minutes I noticed two figures run out into the courtyard. Thinking it was some of the people that kidnapped Judith, Landon, and Harper, I freaked out. I then got a good look at them to see it was just dad and Daryl. They kept yelling at me to stop which only made moving along on the ledge harder.

My fingers started to lose their grip and I started to move faster. That was a bad idea.

As my feet shuffled along the ledge I lost my grip on the wall that my hands were holding onto. I let out a loud scream before I fell. I felt tears streaming down my face as I got closer to the ground.

Suddenly, I stopped falling and was jerked up. There was Dylan, leaning out the fourth window. He pulled me back up and inside. As soon as he let go I went to climb out the window again.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Dylan yelled and grabbed my arm. "You almost just died out there and you are going to go back out?!"

"That is our sister who is probably about to fall and second now!" I screamed. "Now move out of the way."

I shoved him towards the door and climbed back out the window. I looked down at dad who gave me a look that said: If we make it out of this I am going to kill you.

I gulped and moved along the ledge again until I eventually reached where Harper was dangling by the gargoyle. When she saw me I immediately saw how afraid she was.

"Emmie! Please help me!" she sobbed as I climbed into the window that was behind the gargoyle.

"Hold on Harper, I'm gonna get you," I yelled over the rain.

"Emmie!" Judith squealed and I turned to see her and Landon chained to the wall. I quickly undid the chains and brought them the the window. It took me only a few seconds before I had clipped one side of one of the two chains to my belt loop, and the other to the windowsill. Judith handed me the other chain when all of a sudden there was yelling down the hall.

"One of those little brats escaped!" Someone yelled and I ran to the door. They tried to open it but I quickly locked the door and put a metal rod through the handle so they couldn't get in even if they did unlock the door.

Next, I went back to the window and lowered the chain down to Harper.

"Harper, grab onto the chain so I can pull you up!" I said. She looked up at me with scared eyes and nodded.
