"I've got a heartbeat."
I was frozen again. "H-how is that even possible?!" I asked. "They snapped her neck....didn't they?"
Carol felt for a pulse on Emmie's wrist. "I don't know, we will have to ask her that if she ever wakes up." She ran her fingers lightly over the bruises all around Emmie's neck from when the man was holding her by her neck. "There are bruises all down her arms and neck so we are going to need some sort of ibuprofen for if she wakes up."
"When she wakes up," Maggie commented.
Carol gave a small nod and continued. "Someone is gonna have to go out and get some."
I looked up from Emmie's body. "I'll go."
"No, you are they one that needs to stay right here by her side. If she wakes up while someone is still out getting the medicine, you are the first one she will want to see," Carol told me firmly. "You don't leave her side unless it is absolutely necessary."
I sighed and gave a small nod before Carol stood up. "I'll get some people together."
An arm then wrapped around my waist and Maggie sat down next to me. "I'm gonna go on that run," she told me softly.
I turned my gaze from Emmie to her. "No, you can't-" I started but she cut me off.
"I have to. I know exactly what type of medication we need an their names because of my dad. If I don't go, they might not know where to find any of it." She took my hand and kissed my knuckles. "It'll be fine."
Rick stepped up it the middle of everyone and looked around. "The herd is right behind us so we need to find a house or a building to stay in before we send a group out. If we start now we should find a place by sundown."
~•~•~•~
Rick was right, we did find a place before the sun started to set. It was a small cabin with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and two medium sized living rooms. I left Carol, Noah, and Rosita to look over Emmie and went into one of the bedrooms.
It was small with a middle sized bed, a closet, a dresser, and a rocking chair in the corner. I tossed by bag on the bed and went to the dresser. There was nothing but a broken vase on the top of it so I looked inside the drawers. Nothing, there was nothing. Whoever lived here before must have taken everything they had.
I had no luck with the closet either so I got on my stomach and peeked under the bed. The only thing there was an old cardboard box covered in dust. Hesitantly, I took the top of the box off and rummaged around in it. It was mostly old photographs and letters. At the bottom, beneath all the papers, was a small drawstring bag. I gently opened it up and dumped out the contents into my hand. I felt a smile spread on my face as I looked down at it (A/N: You will find out what this is later).
"Glenn?" I heard Maggie call. I quickly shoved what was in my hand into my pocket and pushed the box back under the bed. Then I grabbed my bag, sat on the bed, and started to look through it.
"Yeah? I'm in here," I called out, pretending to be interested in what was in my bag.
The door creaked open and Maggie walked in. "Hey, I'm about to leave. I wanted to say goodbye first." I looked down at the wooden floor and continuously tapped my foot on it with a sigh. "Oh come on, please don't be like that. You don't have to be worried." She sat down next to me on the bed.
"Yes I do, you are just back on your feet from being shot," I said and she looked down at her stomach as if she forgot.
"Oh yeah," She said softly.
"And besides, you are my wife and the mother to my children, I get to be worried." She let out a small laugh and looked at her hand.
"I....I just want to do this for Emmie," Maggie said.
I put a hand on her leg and rubbed it. "I know, but I'm begging you, please stay."
She looked at me in the eye and sighed. "Fine, you win, I'll stay. But I have to go and give Rick the list of what they need."
"Fair enough.....but after this." I leaned forward and kissed her softly.
I made a pouty face when she pulled away. "I will be right back, I just need to walk outside and give them the list."
I waited for a couple minutes and got bored so I went and hid behind the door of the bedroom. A confused look was glued onto Maggie's face when she walked in to see me not there.
She let out a small shriek when I jumped out and picked her up. "You are such an ass," she laughed and wrapped her legs around my waist.
"But you love me anyways," I added.
"Yep." She kissed me again and I sat back down on the bed. "I do love you."
I pressed my forehead against hers while taking her hands.
Then there was a scream. "Glenn!" Carol yelled. "Something is wrong with Emmie!"
