Angel Eyes

Good morning beautiful, how did you sleep?
Did the weight of the world outweigh your head once again, last night?
Did you dream of the endless sapphire skies?
The same ones I see when I look into your angel eyes?

Your solo concert woke me up in the middle of the night,
Your gentle voice louder than I've ever heard you before.
Don't feel bad or be alarmed, I wouldn't miss your show for anything.
Even if you didn't think I could hear.

You're searching for something, something you're afraid to find.
You're inches away, trying to escape, a most interesting form of self harm.
Scream at me without making a single noise, I swear I can still hear your woes.
You're not fooling anyone but yourself this time.

Chains and roses and pearls and stones,
All stained black with the distain you have the capacity for.
Have you ever thought about the color white?
Have you ever dreamt of stratocumulus clouds?
Or are all your visions stormy and dark?

Take two steps forward, one step back.
Progress isn't as scary as you've been taught it is.
You have the ability to shoot for the stars, but the weeds around your feet keep you glued on the ground.
You're holding the shears, and with poison ivy tears in your eyes, you cast them aside.

Take them back, no, take my hand.
Please open your eyes and look at me.
Your angel eyes are filled with clouds of fear and despair.
Your sunlit iris doesn't lie, my lovely. Please let me help you. Let me love you.
I'll be with you every step of the way.

It's been a long life, 18 years of writing songs, poems and stories.
And none of them have ever been platonic, so here's a first, just for you.
Let it show how deeply this heart break boy wants you to believe in him.
Give him a chance, give the stars a chance,

And learn how to let go of the ground
