Olivia greeted us at the edge of Lush Jungle. Kukui stood beside her, while Mallow bounced on her heels like she had been waiting all morning to open the jungle gates.

The entrance looked different from Route 8. Behind us were cliffs, motel signs, and the Fossil Restoration Center's clean walls. Ahead of us were layers of green so thick that sunlight seemed to ask permission.

Pikachu stood beside my foot with his cheeks sparking softly. Snowy rested in Lillie's arms, Dartrix perched on a low branch above us, and Stufful kept turning in circles to watch every moving leaf. Wimpod stayed close to my ankle, ready to hide but not ready to leave.

Lillie noticed and lowered her voice. "It is all right. We will not rush you."

Wimpod looked up, its meaning clear, "The trees are loud."

"They are," Lillie said. "But loud does not always mean dangerous."

"Everyone, gather around," Olivia said. "Today's adventure is about Akala Curry, but do not let the name fool you. This is not only a cooking lesson."

Mallow raised a Forage Bag above her head. "It is about finding the right ingredients, understanding the jungle, and not getting chased because you grabbed something without asking first."

"That sounds oddly specific," Rosa said, glancing toward the thick trees.

"It is very specific," Mallow answered cheerfully. "Lush Jungle remembers rude visitors."

Kukui passed out cards with different ingredient lists. "You will work in three groups. Nate, Rosa, Trenor, and Lana will gather support ingredients near the stream. Kiawe, Sophocles, and Selene will check the flower paths. Mallow will guide Ash and Lillie through the trial ingredients."

Nate turned his card over and studied the margins, as if the ingredient list might hide a story clue. Rosa read hers once, then handed it to Liepard, who sniffed it and looked unimpressed. Trenor checked the stream path with Mudbray, already thinking about footing and safe crossing instead of acting like a beginner.

Selene clutched her card with both hands. Popplio bounced beside her, Mareanie shuffled near her feet, and Salandit watched the flowers like they might breathe fire back. Selene looked nervous, but not helpless. She had learned that being nervous and ready could happen together.

Lillie accepted our card and read each line carefully. "Mago Berry, Tiny Mushroom, Revival Herb, Honey, Big Root, and Miracle Seed. Quite a list."

I looked from the card to the jungle. The air already smelled like wet leaves, flowers, and warm earth. "So we gather everything, cook the curry, and then the trial begins?"

Mallow's smile turned more serious. "The gathering is already part of the trial. A good cook listens before cutting, picking, or stirring. A good Trainer should do the same."

Olivia nodded with approval. "Mallow will be your Trial Captain today. I will watch from the entrance and make sure nobody loses the path."

Mallow handed us the Forage Bag. "Put the trial ingredients in here. If you toss them into a normal Bag with everything else, the taste might become a Mallow Mess."

"Is that an actual recipe?" I asked.

"No," Mallow said. "And everyone should be grateful."

Lillie laughed softly, and Snowy peeked from her arms with calmer eyes than yesterday. Pikachu stepped beside me, while Dartrix adjusted his feathers with the proud look he used whenever he wanted everyone to remember he had evolved.

We entered the jungle beneath a roof of leaves. Sunlight fell through in broken patches, and every shadow seemed to hide movement. Lush Jungle did not feel like a battlefield yet. It felt like a kitchen where every ingredient was alive enough to complain.
