The morning after the Morelull night came softer than I expected, almost kindly enough. Brooklet Hill still carried the smell of rain and wet leaves, but the frightening glow from the forest had faded into sunlight slipping between the trees. After breakfast, everyone agreed that a little training near the water would help shake off the strange tiredness from the night before.

The trial had ended, but Brooklet Hill did not feel finished with us or our Pokémon yet. Water still rushed down the falls, small Pokémon still hid in the reeds, and every pool reflected the sky in a different shade of blue. I understood why Lana loved places like this. The water made the whole world feel like it was always moving, even when we stood still.

Popplio was the most excited. The little Water-type bounced at the edge of the pool, watching the surface as if it had been waiting all morning for permission to turn practice into play. Lillie smiled at it while Snowy sat safely away from the splash zone.

"Let us practice control first," Lillie said. "Not size."

Popplio nodded, cheeks puffing with determination. It blew a round bubble that floated above the water, then another that drifted toward me. I leaned back too late, and the bubble settled around my head like a clear helmet.

For a second, everyone stared. Then I realized I could still breathe inside it.

Pikachu patted the outside of the bubble with one paw, his meaning amused, "Your head is inside a water balloon."

"Thanks, buddy," I said, my voice slightly distorted through the bubble.

Lillie laughed and let Popplio make another bubble around her head. The water shimmered around her face without soaking her hair, and Snowy leaned closer with fascinated caution. Selene walked around us, studying the bubble helmets with a grin.

"Now you all resemble Dewpider," Selene said.

Lillie touched the bubble gently. "Indeed, that is surprisingly accurate."

Lana's eyes brightened at the comparison. "Dewpider use water bubbles to breathe on land. Popplio's bubbles are not the same, but the shape is close enough to fool someone at a glance."

"That sounds useful," Nate said. "Also dangerous if someone mistakes us for actual Water-type Pokémon."

Rosa tilted her head, considering the bubble around Lillie. "It is also surprisingly elegant. If Selene ever uses underwater Contest appeals, she should remember this."

Selene pointed at Popplio. "Only if Popplio agrees to be my bubble designer."

Popplio bounced proudly and made smaller bubbles for the three Rockruff, though they immediately tried to chase them instead of wearing them. Sophocles asked whether he could measure the oxygen inside without being annoying, and Mallow told him that asking made it only half as annoying.

The practice had started as a simple control exercise, but I could already see how useful it might become. Alola had more water paths than most regions I had traveled through, and Brooklet Hill had shown us that not every problem waited on dry ground. If Popplio could keep these bubbles stable, it could protect friends, rescue Pokémon, and maybe one day shape a performance that belonged only to it.

Lana watched with the serious side of her captain face showing through. "Bubble control is not just about making something pretty. Water can frighten people when they do not understand it, so a good bubble has to feel safe."

Popplio listened carefully. It puffed its cheeks again, smaller this time, and made a bubble that floated between Lillie and Snowy without bursting. Snowy sniffed it, then relaxed when it only bobbed in place.
