Hano Grand Resort shone beneath the Alola sun, bright enough that the sea looked like polished glass. After the shadows of Aether House and the strange quiet after Dulse's farewell, Kahili's battlefield felt almost startlingly open. Wind rolled over the resort grounds, and every banner snapped like it was already cheering.
For once, the path ahead looked like a normal League path. Four Elite Four members stood between the Hall of Fame and me, and three medals already rested in my bag. I wanted to believe the final battle could simply be a battle, decided by partners, strategy, and the sky over Kahili's field.
"Alola! And alola once again!" Kahili greeted us warmly. "Ash, I see you are here for the Elite Four battle. Have a look at my fantastic Flying-type team!"
I looked across the field at her confident smile. Lillie, Serena, and Alice moved to the side, giving us space. Pikachu stayed near them, watching with bright eyes. The resort breeze lifted Kahili's hair, and she stood like someone who trusted the sky completely.
"Sure," I replied. "Let us battle."
Kahili tossed her first Poké Ball with the same grace she used on a golf course. Braviary burst out, wings spread wide against the sky. I sent out Alolan Sandslash, trusting ice and steel against Flying power.
"Braviary, Brave Bird!" Kahili called.
Braviary dove like a falling spear. Sandslash rolled aside, icy claws scraping the field, then answered my command with Ice Shard. The attack clipped Braviary's wing, and Sandslash followed with Iron Head before it could regain height.
Braviary struck back with fierce pride, but Sandslash kept low, using the field instead of chasing the sky. Another Ice Shard forced Braviary down, and Iron Head finished the match. Kahili recalled Braviary with a satisfied nod.
"Hawlucha, take the air next!"
Hawlucha landed lightly and moved faster than Sandslash could comfortably follow. Throat Chop struck first, then Flying Press crashed down from above. Sandslash tried to answer with Metal Claw, but Hawlucha twisted away and landed another Flying Press. Sandslash fell, and I recalled him with thanks.
"Vikavolt, I choose you!" I called, throwing his Poké Ball high.
Vikavolt's wings hummed as Hawlucha attacked with Dual Chop. "Dodge and use Thunderbolt!"
Electricity snapped across the field. Hawlucha fought through one strike, but Bug Buzz followed, vibrating through its guard. Vikavolt kept the range open, and another Thunderbolt brought Hawlucha down. Kahili's eyes sharpened. She was enjoying this.
The first exchange left me with one clear lesson. Kahili's Flying types did not simply stay in the air. They chose when to dive, when to disappear above sight, and when to make the whole field feel too slow for us. If I only thought about type advantage, she would punish every late reaction.
Her third Pokémon was Baile Style Oricorio, bright and elegant as fire given wings. It began with Feather Dance, then Teeter Dance, turning the rhythm of the field against Vikavolt. My partner tried to stabilize with Thunderbolt, but Oricorio moved like the attack had become part of its dance.
"Revelation Dance!" Kahili called, letting Oricorio's rhythm flare brighter.
The fiery dance struck Vikavolt hard. He tried one more Bug Buzz, but Oricorio's movements stayed too fluid, and the final Revelation Dance knocked him out. I recalled him and took Minior's Poké Ball.
"Minior, your turn," I said, choosing one hard answer.
Minior floated into the field, shell bright under the sun. Oricorio danced around it, testing its timing with graceful flames. Minior endured the pressure, waiting as I watched for the one moment when Oricorio came too close.
