The Exeggutor Express carried us higher along Mount Hokulani, turning the road into a long curve of sky, stone, and distant ocean. Malie City slowly fell behind us, and the air grew thinner with each turn. By the time the bus reached the top, even the sunlight felt sharper.
Professor Kukui stepped off first and stretched like the whole mountain had been waiting for him. "Mount Hokulani is the second tallest mountain in Alola. And the tallest..."
He pointed outward, but Lillie had already seen the distant peak rising beyond the island. Snowy lifted her head from Lillie's arms, and Nebby's bag shifted faintly, as if the name had reached it before anyone spoke.
"Mount Lanakila," Lillie said, her voice softer than before.
"Yeah, that is where our Ice Type Manor is located," I said. "It is still funny that an Ice Type Manor ended up in a tropical region."
Kukui laughed, then pointed again with the energy of someone unveiling a dream instead of a mountain. "Check it out! That steep, jutting, majestic peak right there is Mount Lanakila, the highest peak in Alola!"
"I was just saying it," Lillie murmured, but there was no real annoyance in her voice.
Kukui's expression became brighter and more serious at the same time. "It is a sacred spot, yeah, the closest you can ever get to the Legendary Pokemon of Alola, said to be the sun incarnate and the moon incarnate. That is where I will establish our Pokemon League!"
The wind seemed to pause around those words. I looked toward Lanakila again and tried to imagine a League standing there, above the whole region, where trial-goers could carry their island challenge farther than anyone before them.
Kukui continued with both hands moving as if he could already see the stadium. "We will gather everyone who finished their island challenge, and up there on Mount Lanakila, they will battle the kahunas to become the island challenge champion. I value our traditions, but it is time to make a Champion the whole world will recognize!"
Trenor's eyes widened despite his usual calm. "You are going to make Alola's own League. That is amazing."
"It is time for Alola to have its own Elite Four and its own Pokemon League," Kukui said. "Then someday, kiddos here can go from island challenge champion to world Champion, and show everyone what is special about Alolan Pokemon and Trainers!"
I felt the old fire rise in my chest. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and now Alola all carried different meanings, but the word Champion always reached me. A League on that sacred peak would not erase Alola's traditions. It would give them another road.
"Now that is what I am talking about!" I said. "I am getting fired up!"
Lillie sighed, but her smile gave her away. "You are just the same as always, Ash."
"That is one reason we keep him," Rosa said.
Nate looked toward Lanakila, then closed his notebook without writing. "Some dreams are too large to trap in the first sentence."
Kukui grinned at him. "Then I will keep building until the whole thing writes itself, yeah?"
Kukui did not seem careless about that. His excitement was loud, but it was not shallow. He spoke about Alola's traditions like someone carrying them carefully, even while imagining something new. That mattered to me. A League built on Mount Lanakila could go wrong if it treated the island challenge like something old to replace, but Kukui's dream sounded more like a bridge.
Lillie looked from Kukui to the distant mountain. "If the sun and moon legends are connected there, then building a League on that peak will make people look at those stories differently."
