Kelli's POV
___________Winter sports were about to come to an end. I was happy for a change. Spring sports were almost here. That means, softball. I am currently on two teams this spring. My goal is to try out for the Varsity Saints softball team. I want to at least catch an inning. But there's one problem. yup. You said it. It has gotten worse over the winter. With all the dome league with my club team, I have been getting little warnings here and there.
I was in French class. My friend Abby, was first in the class as usual. "Hey." I said. "Thank goodness it's Friday!" It was the last class of the day. "I totally agree." Abby said. "The week went by so slow." Then, in came Thomas, Killian, and Mark. "Oh." She said. "It's those boys." We both laughed.
Knowing my classmates, the boys blame everything on Abby. I am always on her side. Our French teacher finds it funny to a certain extant. I literally try to break up the bickering. It's really stupid as well.
However, the teacher was not in school. She and I went to ask for a substitute. So, we went to the front desk. "Excuse me." I said. "Mrs. Hassett-Salley isn't here. Is there a sub here?" The lady was really sweet. "Let me check." She said. "Where is she?" "I don't know." I said. She looked through the substitutes list. "I'm sorry." She said. "There is no one to take over your class. I will try to call a teacher who has a free block. How's that for you girls?"
"Thanks very much." I said. "Anytime, Kelli." She said. We walked back to our classroom. "I wonder where she is." I said. "I'm thinking the same thing." Abby said. "What's going on girls?" Killian asked. "She's not here." I said. "Oh my gosh, thank you." He said. He ended up hugging me. "Um," I said. "Excuse me?"
"Sorry." He said. "I'm just too excited. I didn't do my homework." I face palmed. "Knew that was coming." I said. We just sat in the classroom talking and waiting for a substitute. Then, I started getting lightheaded. "Excuse me for a second." I said. "Oh yeah." Abby said. "Take your time." I got up out of my seat and into the girls bathroom.
I walked into the bathroom and stopped at the sinks. My head started hurting. "Fuck my life." I whispered. I then got a text from Rachel.
Rachel: Kelli. Full moon tonight.
Kelli: Yeah. Knew that. Gtg. French.
It was kinda short. I kinda stayed in the bathroom thinking about that night of the coffee house. Jason didn't think I was an animal. I thought that was good. I don't have to worry anymore. But now I have to worry about Annabelle.
Will she come after me? I've had so many dreams about her trying to kill me. It's like that every night. I just can't take it. I stared into the mirror. Staring back at me was a catholic schoolgirl with auburn hair and yellow eyes. They turned back to brown. I shook my head and blinked. It came back on again.
"Not again." I whispered. This was the third time of it happening today. I know what my real goal is. It's to keep away from critics, keep away from distractions, and focus on keeping my werewolf side a secret.
Then an announcement came up on the intercom. Attention all eighth graders. There is a dance coming up this April. Dancing, food, karaoke and more. It is in the lower gym from seven to ten.
The time stuck in my brain forever. I will never make it. I will turn and everyone will notice me. And it's during softball season. I know I am usually on the verge of turning at a softball game.
I just decided to tell Rachel about this whenever I get home. I walked back into the classroom. "Are you okay?" Abby asked. "You were in there for a while." "Yeah." I said. "I was just fixing my makeup."
But I wasn't. I couldn't just tell her. I'd blow my whole cover in front of my friends. I didn't want that. That would suck. I know that from all the experience is never want to be caught dead in my werewolf form. That is a fact. I will be more careful from now on.
