Chapter 44

Wednesday, March 12th, 1995

(Luke's POV)

"Good, you're all here." I said as I walked in the door of the studio. 

"We always rehearse after school?" Alex wonders. "Why wouldn't we be here? And where's Tegan, you guys always come together."

"She's not coming today." I answered him. "I kinda told her we weren't rehearsing then made up an excuse so we couldn't hang out instead."

"I thought you guys don't keep secrets." Bobby says from his chair.

"Well if you let me finish, I need you guys here, and I needed her not to be here." I sighed, annoyed with Bobby. "And it's not a secret, exactly, it's a surprise. And before you say it because I know you're thinking it," Bobby had a smirk on his face, "Yes, it's a secret, but that's because it's a surprise."

"Is it the cassette tapes?" Reggie eagerly asked.

"Yes, exactly." I nodded as I walked to the bathroom to pull out the shoe box that I stashed there. "I need your help recording some of the songs." I sat back down with them. "I've been able to write so many songs recently it's insane! And some I eventually want to put on stage, that's why I want you guys on some of them."

"Of course we will." Alex nods. "Whatcha got?"

"Well, I want to do Somebody To You, then I have to finish a few more." I answered "I told you, the creative juices have been flowing! Then there's a few more that I'm going to record myself, but today let's just make sure we get a good take of Somebody To You."

(Tegans's POV)

Saturday, March 22nd, 1995

Luke and I were trying to make it a habit of singing at the coffee shop every weekend. It was something we both loved doing and got to do it together. And I loved dragging Alex and the others along, on the off chance Jaden was there. 

This Saturday, we convinced the other three to come with us before we headed back to the studio to rehearse like normal. Reggie, Bobby and Alex sat at a table while Luke and I went back stage, and was very happy at Jaden tuning his guitar with Colin and Parker. 

The five of us had I guess become the shops Saturday regular performers, and some of the workers started greeting us by name. 

"Jaden! I brought a friend today!" I pointed behind me. 

"You mean your boyfriend?" He asks. "Don't you bring him every time?"

"No- I mean, yeah I do. But I meant a different friend." I pointed this time to the door, not to where Luke had stopped to open his guitar case. 

"Ohhhh." He says as Colin nudged him with a smile. "Did you really?"

"Yeah, but it's not just him. The rest of our band came today." I sat down in their circle of chairs. 

"You should see your face right now, dude." Colin laughs while Jaden lightly shoved him.

"We weren't one hundred percent sure that you'd be here, but Alex will be happy you are." Luke sits down next to me. 

"You know you're on stage first." Collin says. 

"How about I go first today?" Parker offers. 

"That would be great." Jaden nods. Parker walked out into the shop to a little applause before sitting down to play. We continued talking as his song "Let's Fall In Love For The Night." came from the floor.  "Alex is really nice to talk to though. Once we both got past the initial nerves, he seems really great."
