Teach a lesson

After putting on my fresh uniform, I sprinted to the dining hall to see I was just in time for dinner. No one seen to notice my brief absence due to our hunger. After everyone else,I gathered what was left for my plate down. Plain steamed carrots, baked potatoes, and the smallest bit of grilled chicken. It must be a reward from their recent success in scouting.

I sat down at the wooden table with the others. I sat next to a quiet girl with dark hair. The other members were talking loudly as laughter erupted the room. I smiled as I looked around at my new team members and laughed with them. It felt amazing to be included, all except for one who was eating silently at the end of the table, watching over everyone.

"Shut up already, you sound like drunken fools despite there only being water," he spoke. One blonde man went up to him and laughed.

"Come on Captain! We gotta celebrate a new trainee! See how long she lasts with you as our boss!" As he laughed and the others nervously. Levi looked at him sharply as he pushed him to sit.

"Yes, we shall see how long she will last," he stared at me for a moment with that piercing glaze. I looked away, still shy from earlier. I rejoined the conversation with the other scouts to distract myself as I finished my plate.

"Hey, is that a new uniform trainee?" One of them asked. It was a man with short brown hair and a curious look on his face.

"Yes, I found it on my bed when I arrived," I lied. I didn't need to tell the truth about where I really found it.

"Lucky! I wish I got a new uniform when I arrived. Many the cotton harvested is better this year," they spoke calmly as they moved on to other details. Is this not the standard? But the uniform fits me perfectly, as it was tailored for my body. How on Earth did Levi give me this so quickly? I held back a blush from my face the best I could but I saw an eyebrow raise from the girl with black hair next to me. 

After cleaning up dinner with the others, we all headed to bed. Mine was on the top floor of the house, farthest from the fire. The day was hot but the nights always cold. I tried to see if I could shut my window more and keep any more air out but it was already sealed. The grounds were beautiful as the moon was raised high already. I know I should sleep but I just can't seem to yet.

Silently, I walked all the way down the spiral stairs, careful not to have a squeaky floor board give it anyway. My nightgown was heavy a fabric but it still seemed to flow with the draft. I saw a light in the kitchen. I needed some water, so I went in anyways as the light seemed faint enough. I froze seeing that stonic face again who immediately turned to look at me.

"Trainee, you can't stay out of trouble today can you?" He spoke, quiet enough no one else would hear, but loud enough to make me nervous. I stood in the doorway as he approached me and placed his hand on his hip. I looked at those beautiful gray eyes that seemed unfit for his angry expression. "Well?"

"I am getting water, Captain," I replied to him, hoping it would satisfy him. His expression remained unchanged. I noticed where he was sitting there was a cup of tea, still steaming. I looked back at him.

"Water? I doubt that was allowed after dinner in your training, why would it be allowed now?" He stated coldly.

"I see you are drinking tea, it smells like black tea," I replied, looking back sharply at him. He is so frustrating with all of this intimidation and I still haven't forgiven for earlier. Despite my brain telling to me professional and a good subordinate, I just can't. I saw a slight hint of surprise on his face but it quickly changed to his normal, straight face.

"I am the Captain, what makes you think you can enjoy the same benefits as me?" He stated, trying to force me back to my docile nature he seems to have already figured out.

"What kind of a leader keeps benefits for themselves away from their subordinates?" I spat back at him. That quick flash of surprise appeared again. He crinkled his eyebrows and sighed.

"Very well, you may have your water, but don't think I won't be teaching you a lesson with it too," he smirked as he stared at me with an expression I've never seen before. Only for a moment, that sly smirk of his faded as he disappeared into the pantry to grab some water. 

What is his planning?
